I like all of your ideas so far!

A friend of mine did Star Wars X-Wing Cuff Links for the guys, named all the tables things like “The Shire”, “Alderon”, “Godric’s Hollow”, etc. Their cake had subtle cut outs in fondant of legos and the deathly hollows symbol.

For Doctor Who, how about something like getting a sonic screwdriver pen for people to sign the guest book? Or to sign the marriage license with?

Olgarie:

Just have to say, I like all the geeky touches you are planning to add. Especially the Don’t Panic save-the-dates 🙂

I made a sign with a quote from Neil deGrasse Tyson – We are all connected, to each other biologically, to the Earth chemically, to the rest of the universe atomically. We also named our tables after scientists and included a quote from each one. My husband was his brother’s best man a year ago and ended his toast “so say we all” and they loved it 🙂 I kinda hoped his brother would do the same thing this year (he was the best man for our wedding), but not enough to mention it.

Olgarie:  love all of your ideas! We’re also into the subtle geek nods. Here are a few of our ideas:

Our signature drinks will be called “Health” and “Mana”

Groomsmen and bridesmaids are getting superhero t shirts in their gifts

For our murder mystery rehearsal dinner we gave our guests superhero alter egos (sort of following the movie Watchmen).

Geeky table names

Geeky accessories for the photobooth

Olgarie:  My husband and I are gamers (met playing WoW) so most of the touches we added are WoW/video game themed.  Things like the cake topper, boutonnieres, jewelry, etc., can easily be DIY’d with charms, buttons or symbols to fit your theme (I used polymer clay).  You could even customize maps and itineraries in photoshop and print them up at home.  Also, consider incorporating certain instrumental music pieces for your walk down the aisle (we used music from Futurama).  Here are a few of my favorites from our wedding.

the horde symbol on our invites

Quest log guest itineraries (a few of our guests were also our guildies)

Gamer boutonniere alternatives (DIY)

Azure Blue Whelpling necklace (first gift he gave me in game)

our “romantic picnic basket” cake topper (another WoW item)

Olgarie:  We painted Mandalorian helmets in our wedding colors to use as decor and in fun photos.  I used old Han & Leia action figures as my cake toppers on my traditional white (w/ pink peonies) bridal cake.  DH used two Mandalorian action figures which we painted to match the helmets on his Army cake.  Also, our recessional music was the theme from Indiana Jones.  We also used the book DH proposed with (a Star Wars book) as decor at our reception.  Our guest books were framed James Hance prints (Star Wars/Up mash-ups) matted for signing and they came out lovely!  Oh, and I sewed a Lego Boba Fett onto my lace/Army garter and DH loved that!

All in all, it was well-received and we loved getting to be ourselves!

housebee:  I absolutely love the idea of “quest” itineraries. Where ever did you find them?

(Also, that necklace is amazing.)

Olgarie:  Definitely try polymer clay, Michael’s will have sales occasionally for 40%-50% off, so keep an eye out.  Plus, you can check to see if they accept competitor coupons (the one near mea accepts hobby lobby coupons).

SilverWire:  Thanks 🙂 I actually just made them using InDesign.  I think Adobe has a free 30 day trial on most of its products (you could probably do these in photoshop as well).

What about something ‘hello sweetie’ to meet your doctor who needs? Maybe a banner cake topper or something?
