I remember researching this a bit too before I bought mine.  I ended up going with red carpet manicure. I got the professional kit, which has an LED lamp.  It takes 45 seconds a coat, rather than some lamps that take 2 or 3 minutes.  It was $80 for the lamp, base, top, one color polish, as well as the prep stuff.  I love mine!  They also sell the polishes at target, which was convenient to me.

I have the S*ally H*ansen one. It works pretty well. It definitely doesnt last as long as a normal gel manicure. Usually about 5-6 days. I’ve used some other brand polishes with it (s*ensationail) and that lasted even less time.

sensationail from walmart is around $40 and works great! You can use any gel polish with it (not just their brand) and includes everything you need to do your manicure. My nail color lasts up to 2 weeks and it always looks beautiful. I did a lot of research before I chose one, and I am definitley glad I went with this one!

I use SensatioNail and bought the starter kit at Walgreens. Walgreens ALWAYS has sales on different colors and I only buy them when they’re half off. They last me roughly 2 weeks. I really like the kit and think its one of the best ones available.

If you can just buy the light and the three polishes (base, color, top).  Do that.  The prep and post cleaner is just a $1 bottle of rubbing alcohol!

id say any system that can fit 4 fingers at a time and cures the nails in 45 seconds is the best.  You can actually use any gel polish with any kit.  I’m painting my nails now!

FutureMrsDM:  I use Sally hansen and it works well for me. It doesnt usually last the full two weeks – usually about 1 – 1 1/2 but that’s fine with me because I love that it is dry when you are done. They’ve been coming out with more colors every few months too! I love it.

I have the sensationail kit and I couldn’t be happier with it. So glad I bought this. I had gone to the nail salon for 9 years religiously until getting this. I haven’t been to the nail salon for 6 months now!!

Ice_cream:  +1!!!

I have had red carpet and LOVE IT!!!  I have talked to plenty of other ppl about it… some used Sally Hansen, but it’s not nearly as shinny or last as long as red carpet!

Oh and it take me about 40-45 minutes to do my nails with red carpet, but I am really really picky… so I tend to take a lot longer than needed lol.

Najinc0122:  FutureMrsDM:  it also takes me about 30-45 minutes.  But I oil my cuiticals and buff them up nice.  I can get my nails to last for 2 weeks, and sometimes longer.  After the first week, sometimes I’ll put another top coat on.  Just make sure you don’t put the polish TOUCHING the cuticles.  It will peel away faster. Leave a little gap, and don’t apply thick coats!

I’m sorry for invading your thread, I just want to ask if you or some of the other ladies know about a safe place where I can get my gel nails done? I almost lost my fingers the last time I did gel nails. The lady who did them butchered my fingers, I had to deal with massive wounds, burns and terrible pain for months, it was really serious and now that my fingers have healed my nails are back to looking miserable, I’ve been trying to grow them out but they just won’t grow. I’m from the UK, if anyone is interested just message me.

Ice_cream:  +1!! That’s exactly what I do, but I don’t put the second coat of top coat on.  I will have to try that!!

You all must be magicians or something…I tried Sensationail three times following directions to a T and every time it peeled off the next day just like regular polish.

Only thing that’s lasted as long as it claims on me is Jamberry Nail Wraps.
