I never realized it until joining the bee.  I think it’s a personal preference.  Of course, my dress is also straight across…but I love it.

I think sweethearts and slight scoops are more universally flattering, which is why they seem to work for many people.

My dress has more of a straight front to it, and I added sleeves, so now it’s almost square.  But it works for me 🙂  I didn’t want to show any boobage 😉

I do think the scoop is more flattering on me personally. I like straight across for coverage boobage, though, as a PP said.

Also, just like everything else in wedding world, it’s a sign of the times.

It is def. a personal preference… I thought I always liked sweetheart necklines but when I tried them on me, I felt like they made me look bigger ( I have a 40DD chest) so I actually chose a straight across neckline that covers them more up..but other busty girls love them! Its just a choice

Straight across made my already sparce boobs look non existent. I knew after just a few dresses I could not go with a straight neckline.

I think it depends on the fit and the persons body. I like all necklines incuding straight across. On weddingbee it seems everyone wants a sweetheart but I dont think they flatter everybody by any means

I tried on some sweethearts, but most of them made me feel like I was wearing just a  bra on top. (I ended up going with a dress that is straight across.)

I hate straight across necklines and backs ON ME.  I actually love the look on some people – it’s so clean and modern.  But I find them really unflattering with the way I’m built (I have very muscular shoulders and arms and a moderately small chest). I actually found the difference astonishing between straight and sweetheart necklines and straight and dipped backs so I recommend them pretty strongly to anyone with a similar body type.

I think it totally depends on how it looks on. I loved some straight necklines, but then I put them on, and it was bad. Very, very bad, lol. I either had a ton of cleavage or a very large uniboob. They look amazing on some people, though!

@Evie19: I’m a DD and I thought it made my boobs look huge. Plus I felt like I had uni-boob as well. I opted for a sweetheart.

most summer strapless dresses that I wear are straight across – but every straight neckline wedding dress that I tried on, I though made me look wider. I am fan of sweethearts – but my wedding dress was different with a “v” neckline 🙂
