well what type of setting do you currently have? i’d take it to a jeweler, they should be able to tell you your options.

swap out your current stone into a pendant, and make this heirloom stone your e ring!

@QueenOfSerendip:  well do you have a solitaire with prongs holiding the stone? if yes, a jeweler can simply make new prongs to fit your new stone.

do you have a halo with small diamonds in a circle around your stone? if yes – this will be trickier (but not impossible) to accomodate.

can you upload a photo?

@QueenOfSerendip:  I’d just keep your original ring as is, and wear the heirloom ring (sized of course and maybe re-set if need be) as long as it’s ok with your FI.

@QueenOfSerendip:  oh that’s beautiful! a jeweler can absolutely add new prongs that would accomodate your new diamond. you could do four prongs like this

or 6 prong like this

It is wonderful to have an heirloom piece to remember your loved one.  Congratulations!  Since you are unsure of settings, I would start looking online and visit local jewelers to see which settings you like.  There are quite a few different settings out there.  That is really the only way to determine if you can incorporate your current stone in with a new setting.  If you decide to keep the heirloom ring a solitaire, I would have it made into a pendant or a right hand ring.  Good Luck and have fun deciding.  Laughing

@QueenOfSerendip:  I would go for it!  A jeweler can definitely put her stone and setting on your band.  I would just tuck away your old stone for safe keeping.  Or make it into a necklace.

Definitely wear the larger diamond. It looks much more proportioned to your hand.
