I was stationed at Ft. Gordon for a few years and I'm still in the Augusta area. What Fort are you going to?
Fort Benning-bound!
ETA: columbus, GA. he will be in the AEGD program there. it just seems like this whole new world i know nothing about. is there anything i should do to prepare? learn about ranks, etc.? sorry if this seems silly.
We don't live in the Ft Benning area, but you should head over to the georgia boards and introduce yourself!
on my way! thanks for the suggestion.
Hi Dolce bella,
Ft. Benning is nice my Ex just moved there last yr. However my Fi is and I are moving to Warner Robins Air Base in June. I hope you love ga just as much as I do! ( beside, I'm was born and rasied here) Good Luck at Ft. Benning
The fiance and I live in Columbus Ga, he's going into the police academy, but I work with several military wives! Columbus is a nice place, no need to be scared :)
Do come over and introduce yourself!
I'm north of ATL!
We've got alot of nice GA bees!
I'm here!!! My FI is stationed at Ft. Stewart in Savannah and has been for 3 years BUUUUUT we just found out he will be moving and reporting to Ft. Still in Lawton, OK on May 9th. We have absolutely LOVED Savannah and will really miss it :( Like you, we're getting ready for a big move!
Breathe, you're going to be JUST FINE!! You can do this!
Expect a lot of hoops that he has to jump through once he reports...in- processing and such, getting to his new unit, etc. Is he an officer or enlisted? The move itself will be the hardest part, what with packing and driving, and then unpacking and settling in. The military does pay for that, so that's really nice!
I advise you to join any and every family and support group so you can get involved and meet other wives and familes. They will be your new network and family and you'll really benefit more if you get involved. The FRG is the Family Readiness Group and they relay any info about things that are going on and once he deploys in the future, they will be your support group and lifeline.
Learn what you can about what he's doing but I promise, you'll still be learning and figuring things out along the way. It's been 3 years and I'm still catching on to things ;) The ranks and acronyms and the order of groupings still confuse me and I'm always asking questions. Just ask questions and familiarize yourself with at least what he does.
The move is scary because it's a new place and environment but it's also fun, like an adventure for the 2 of you. Embracing it is the only way you'll make it and just enjoy it. It's scary and at times hard but it can be fun, too and honestly, it's really not a bad lifestyle. We're really happy for the most part. You're gonna be fine and the great thing is, the military is one big family. Don't forget that!
Please please please PM if you need to talk or have any questions. It's a big adjustment, no matter how long you've been in, and it's always good to have someone you can relate to. Just stay positive and remember, you and your hubby are in this together.
oh, ladies. thank you so much! i didn't see any responses for a few days and was so happy to come back now and see the responses.
@kaylinstone - what do you do?
@mrsmurray - he's an officer. 2nd Lt. now. Captain upon arrival. see!!! i don't even know if that makes a difference.
aye yay - i am very excited about this next adventure. when i told him i was starting to get butterflies about it he said "Why don' t you go ask your Bee friends about it?"
and you made me feel better! merci beaucoup, bees.
@dolce bella: We'll be heading to Ft Benning at the end of July for his BOLC.. should be there for 6-9 months. :)
