A friend of mine is currently 10 weeks pregnant and suffering from terrible G.E.R.D (gastroesophageal reflux disease), it’s making her life hell right now. She had previously dealt with acid reflux, but it didn’t turn into G.E.R.D until she got pregnant. She’s on various meds, and none of them really help all THAT much. She’s also on a cocktail of the meds and maalox, which means she’s constantly either throwing up or suffering from insane diarrhea (tmi, sorry). She’s miserable. I only suffered from acid reflux and heartburn during my pregnancy, so I don’t know how to help.
She’s worried it’s going to last throughout the rest of her pregnancy, which would be a nightmare. So I thought I’d come in here to ask if any of you lovely ladies suffered from GERD during your pregnancy, how you dealt with it, and when (and if) it stopped. Thanks a lot.

I’ve been taking Prevacid for years now and when I got pregnant, the doctor told me it was fine to keep taking it if I thought I needed to. I get heartburn so bad at the best of times I knew there was no way I could function without it…anyway, he switched me to Omeprazole, which apparently is the same thing but it’s the version that’s been around the longest. I just take one 20 mg every morning, and no heartburn or reflux (for the most part)! Maybe she could ask her dr if that’s something she could try.

@kiwi: Not preggo, but thanks to my hiatal hernia, I have it at the ripe old age of 22! Eat small meals whenever your stomach lets you eat is the best I have. I have to switch up which antacid chewable I use because I get tired of them all the time.
Also, I’m not sure why she’s getting diarrhea from maalox, uness she’s taking milk of magnesia instead.
