So, I was reading another post about underwear and got to thinking about the wedding night and my dress situation. I was told by the boutique that I bought my dress at the the best way to undo the buttons on the back of my dress was by using a crochet hook. At first, the thought of my FH undoing those buttons with a crochet hook was kind of a hillarious site in my head, now I am thinking that with is being an evening wedding, us being tired, and my family going back home the next day - what will I do with the dress afterwards? How will I keep it safe? etc.
So, I thought about maybe having a "getaway dress" I think I have heard of this before, but I could be making it up - who knows? Have you ever heard of or done this yourself. I was thinking I could have my sister help me change into the other dress before we leave. That way, I could put on my sexy lingerie then instead of having to change and we don't have to worry about the dress when I get back.
Also, I might note that my wedding dress was considerably more expensive than planned, so it would have to be affordable (talking $100 - $150 MAX if not less), any suggestions? I am getting married in a very old church (originally but in London in the 1400s and imported to the US brick by brick in the 60s) So, I would love to keep the antique feel and carry over some of the elements of ivory and lace from my wedding dress.
It's totally traditional to change into something at the end of the night, as if you're taking off on your honeymoon--even if most people today stay put the night of the wedding. My mom had an adorable getaway dress for her wedding, and I've always wanted something like that (although budget may force me to shop in my closet, heh.) If your wedding dress has a vintage feel, how about looking in a vintage clothing shop for a dress, or even a cute traveling suit? You might find a good bargain that way.
I love the idea of a get a way dress-- however most of us have such tight timelines at the reception that being away from our guests for the last half hour of the reception to change out of the wedding dress, freshen up and put on another outfit to say our goodbyes just won't happen.
I think if you had an open ended reception site it would work.
And I like the idea of a white suit... like in the old doris day movies.
the David's Bridal $99 sale is almost over...I got a lace dress on clearance for Newport News...I probably won't wear it again, but it was so affordable, and I found a free shipping code online...maybe I'll wear it on our anniversary...I've also seen some cute stuff on ebay, and a lot of them have the measurements shown
Macy's has a really cute white skirt suit for only $80! I tried to post a link earlier but was having difficulty, so you'll have to search for it--"Jones New York Three-Button Jacquard Skirt Suit."

$80 is pretty affordable!
(I think that model must be absurdly tall... if the skirt really is 25" it will hit below the knee on most normal sized people--not really a mini!)
