You have 270k in saving between the two of you. That is more than half the cost of a house in your area. I think you could safely put money towards a diamond now if that is what you really want. You don’t need 50% down on a house. If you make 200k a year combined, you should do fine with a morgage.

I personally would have a colored gemstone over a CZ, but that’s just me.

But if you don’t want a colored gemstone, then I think you 2 need to have a discussion on what the timeline is for getting you a diamond, since it’s obvious the idea of a cz is disappointing to you.  I would make a decision once you had more information from him.  And to me, “someday” would not fly.

Is there a reason your SO suggested a cz? I’d think with 60k in savings, saving for a ring wouldn’t be an issue.

@sandy11224:  It sounds like you would be disappointed with the CZ so I would wait. If you and your boyfriend are pulling in $100K a year each I don’t really see why he would get you a CZ when you want a diamond.

@sandy11224:  Well how big of a diamond do you want? It seem like you have plenty of money to buy a really nice ring. I’m not sure how 5-10 grand would hurt you if you have a quarter of a million sitting in your bank.

I would rock my cz proudly. I don’t see anything wrong with getting the setting now and the diamon later. try asha diamonds of moissaniteco. People swear on those two gems as an alternatove to diamonds.

Just ask him to wait for a diamond. You sound disappointed and you guys make enough money it shouldn’t take too long to save for it.

Get your home deposit and your ring.

You can get a honkin’ diamond and setting for a small percentage of your savings.

You don’t have to have a ring to be engaged. And you can get a diamond or other stone for fairly cheap. You don’t have to get CZ.

@sandy11224:  If you dont like the idea of CZ but don’t want to spend on a diamond yet, why dont you compromise and do moissanite? Its beauitful, as has a better rep than CZ and you can replace with a diamond when ready
