Hello Bees! spoiler alert: this may offend. so stop reading if you get to that point.

So I'm interested in starting a sort of "health club" and wanted to see if anyone is willing to do it here. We can be each others support group and sounding board, kind of like weight watchers, but free! I personally am tired of the idea that you have to be thin to be healthy (like anorexia or crash dieting is healthy) but I'm also tired of the fact that so many people are complacent about being overweight (and not in a healthy, ready for baby kind of way). It really is not ok. Not only do you do damage to yourself, your unhealthy habits have the potential to affect your mate and your offspring(both more likely to be unhealthy) and your family when something happens to you. I unfortunately have fallen victim to this lack of concern about my health and I think it is time to change. Which is where you come in! If you are interested, I would love to start a little community of those of us who are looking for a little inspiration to do what we should be doing anyway!

I am thinking that it would be great if you would share every healthy tip for eating, cooking, exercising, motivation, all that great stuff on this thread and hopefully through using it we can all get better! (and look great for our wedding day without starving ourselves!) Also, share your successes! Let everyone know when you lost a few pounds or moved up a weight class when lifting or ran the farthest you have ever run! But also share your failure, i know I just ate half a can of Almond Roca because of stress, help each other out by being eachothers "sponsors"!

    What do you think?!

So i will gladly join your group!

I'm in! I need to get healthier myself. It's kind of a loaded topic for me, but I am all down for helping others with what I know and could use some help myself!

I am totally in. I have been making a concious effort to eat healthier and drink more water, but it doesn't always happen. Especially lately with the wedding, school, and starting a new job I find myself making more and more bad eating choices. I also need to start excrising.

I'll join, I'm all ready with the workout buddies, but I think when it comes to being healthier it never hurts to have as much support as possible. Because it's not easy to be healthy.

@MsPanda: Don't feel bad, I consumed an entire thing of pull-apart jalepno cheese bread in two days (one of those days it was all I ate, aside from some plain greek yogurt). But on a good note, been to the gym every single day of the week aside from Monday when I didn't want to eat anything but that strange sinfully good bread >.< never again is it coming in this house. I told the person responsible for buying it to never get it again, or at least have it where I can see it and am having moments of weakness.

    I'm in.

Just joined Lose It.com yesterday (it's free) and am trying to net about 1,200 cals per day (calories eaten - exercise).

Went over on Tuesday (mostly due to alcohol) but did 50 min on the elliptical yesterday and Day 1 of the 30 day shred today.

1,200 is fairly restrictive but it's my "goal" for each day and I will not beat myself up if I have a 1,500 calorie day every once and a while.

It's really helped me to see the calories of EVERYTHING that goes into my mouth and even though I *know* what I should and shouldn't eat, it really drives it home (even more than WW did).

I want to do this the right way and be healthy for life, not just drop 20ish lbs for the wedding only to gain it back and more after.

    i think loseit.com is a great idea!

also, i think it works best if we start with managable short term goals. mine for the next three days are:

-run 30 min everyday with my dog(she needs to be healthier too! the shelter where we adopted her made her soft)

    -25 pushups daily

    -25 situps

in fact i am doing my situps/pushups right after this so i don't forget. a little HP saying i love: do it today or later you'll pay! thanks hermione

Here are my short term goals. This will be perfect, because I am taking a physical education class for my credential right now and I need to come up with a health plan.

    1. Eat 1300 calories daily with one splurge day at 1500 calories. Track on loseit.com. Keep a food journal.

    2. Walk 30 minutes every day. 25 push-ups and sit-ups every day.

    3. Eat 5-7 veggies every day.

    4. Drink 7-10 glasses of water every day.

We have a biggest loser thread here on the bee that is also around the same lines.

But I would def love to join this group too. I have healthily (is that a word?) lost 13 pounds since April 1st by eating healthy (not dieting because I plan to do this for the rest of my life) and exercise.

I would love to have as much support and give as much support as possible.

I am on myfitnesspal my user name is otranquility if anyone wants to add me!

I'm in, too! I exercise regularly, but it's my eating habits that really need some encouragement! I was able to lose 30 lbs for my New Year's Resolution...I was eating really healthy, no junk food...had a really bad day and my diet's been blown ever since! I've gained 5lbs back already...:((((

I think this is a great idea and will provide so much encouragement! :)

@mittens111211: sounds similar to my problem. During school we would eat out 2-3 times a day. Add to that a severe addiction to Pepsi for both of us. Just dropping the pop and fast food and doing a little bit of gardening helped us drop 12 pounds together.

My first bit of advice for everyone would to be (gasp!) eat when you feel hungry. Its your body saying "hey! if you dont put something in here I'm putting the breaks on your metabolism" Eat a ~100 calorie snack if you aren't close to a meal.  You will end up eating less in the long run if you don't starve yourself until your next scheduled meal.

@Tunacupcakes: Personally I need better breakfast ideas.

I always eat in the work cafeteria and my go to currently is:

English muffin w/ cream cheese and 2 slices of tomato

    Apple

Coffee w/ splenda and 2 tbsp of light cream

That ends up being almost 400 cals and it seems like a lot to spend on breakfast.

Any good ideas for low calorie, filling breakfasts? (My coffee is staying though, as is it's only 40 cals total.)

    My goals are:

    1) Net 1,200 cals per day or less (Cals eaten - Cals burned with exercise)

    2) Eliminate alcohol on weekday nights, only drink on Fri or Sat and in moderation ONLY

    3) Do 30 day shred 3-4 days a week

    4) Do the elliptical (or other cardio) 2-3 days a week

I already drink 7-10 bottles of water per day so thankfully I'm good there.

    @KatNYC2011:

I usually stick with a whole wheat english muffin and natural peanut butter. I used to drink a double double coffee and slowly changed my coffee to 2 milks no sugar. I find that the english muffin and peanut butter fills me up and I don't really even have space for an apple or anything. Then I eat a snack around 10 if I am hungry.

Im not sure if youre a fan of eggs, but i make mini egg muffins. I make them on Sunday and freeze them for the week. Pop two in the microwave or toaster oven and Im good to go for the morning along with some sort of fruit. You can add a whole bunch of different things to them: Asapragus, spinach, ham, turkey bacon, peppers. etc. Change it up each week. My go to is spinach and a little bich of feta. Yum!

@tranquility: I LOVE peanut butter but I cannot keep it in the house. It is one of my trigger foods and I will eat it by the spoonful if it is around.

Sadly the work cafeteria only has regular Skippy PB so the cals on that are really high too (as is the sugar).

@EasternShoreLoveStory: I do like eggs and my caf will make egg white omelets with anything I want in them (plus they cook with pam and not oil).

Maybe I'll try and rotate that in.

I'm just NOT a morning person and I barely get to work on time as it is, so even stopping to microwave something would make me late!

I'd really like to be involved as well. I always wanted to lose weight, but ever since I got diagnosed with PCOS it is my main goal to get healthy and take care of my symptoms naturally.

    A support system always helps!

@KatNYC2011: If you don't have time to make egg white omelettes (a really low cal option to get lots of protein and veggies in) then I recommend low fat greek yogurt or any kind of low/non fat yogurt. It is filling and it's easy!

@Evie19: I LOVE greek yogurt. It is often my low cal lunch staple if I know I'm going to have a big dinner out.

I can get an egg white omelet made for me at work. Just have to figure out what I can put in it to make it tasty enough.

I'm in! After reading the last thread on detox I think this is just what the hive needs! I'm all about exercising & eating healthy. Cardiovascular disease runs in my family, so I'm all about limiting salt and fat intake, eating whole foods and getting my daily dose of exercise. =)

I love the idea of sharing recipes too. Last week I made a whole wheat mac & cheese, that did not incorporate any other flour (besides the pasta), butter/oil and used a pureed onion & garlic base (sounds weird I know) and greek yogurt & low fat cheedar. I found the recipe in a Fitness mag & will try to find it to share. Even my white pasta, red meat eating FI liked it!

My problem is I LOVE carbs and really cheesy/creamy things. I know I cannot completely cut them out from my diet, but I need to find a way to incorporate them in a healthy way.

@KatNYC2011: Oh my love for things with cream cheese! I used to eat a ww bagel with lite cream cheese and tomato everyday with my coffee, now I save that for the weekend as a special treat. I recently have moved onto rolled oats, which i put different frozen fruit in. Soometimes I even use mango and peaches. I then add a packet of truvia to sweeten and some cinnamon (which is loaded with antioxidents). When I make my coffee I brew it with a tsp. of unsweetened cocoa powder (for more antioxidents, I'm all about fighting those free radicals haha) and sometimes a pinch of cinnamon too (FI says it makes the coffee taste like Christmas ;).

If you love cream cheese, here's an idea too. I usually makes this in the fall. I take a package of fat free cream cheese and a package of lite cream cheese (normally I hate fat free cc but I can't tell its ff in this). Then I take a cup of canned pumpkin, some truvia and punpkin pie spice to taste (butmeg, ginger & cinnamon). I whio it all together and it makes a fabulous pumpkin pie cream cheese, and its not to bad for you since you're lightening it up with the viatmin k packed pumpkin. =)

@KatNYC2011: Thats my problem too, I love carbs and cheese!

I know this isnt healthy but if you're dying for a sweet treat, Pillsbury offers sugar free cake mix and we make cupcakes with it, no frosting though :( Anyhoo, if you have vanilla, make it with a can of DIET lemon lime soda, and if you have chocolate make it with a can of DIETcoke/pepsi. They come out so moist and people never realize that I've skipped the eggs & oil. Not very nutritious but they do they job of satisfying a craving. Oh and it will only work with cupcakes, not actual cakes.

I just read a study that had people rate attractivess among different people. People who had tanned or people who ate carrots (which supposedly gives you skin a natural glow) and the carrot eating people were rated as more attractive. So now this summer when I get the urge to lay out in the sun guess I'll be munching on carrots instead ;)

@nickels: I put cinnamon in my coffee every morning. Didn't know it had antioxidants in it! Added bonus.

I don't really like pumpkin pie (I know, I'm bizarre). I'm trying to switch over to tofu cream cheese (actually really good) and my local bagel place has it.

@nickels: I've heard about doing that before but have never tried it.

I got a bake ware set as an engagement gift... maybe I should make some diet coke cupcakes...

    Cinnamon in coffee eh?

Stupid question, but how much cinnamon do you put in it? I have never tried this but it sounds yummy.

And I second salsa. I love hot sauce, jalapenos, salsa and all that good spicey stuff. Low cal but packs the flavor!
