The best thing I have found for dieting is keeping track of calories. Boring but it works and it's not a fad diet so you aren't going to lose 10 pounds in a week but it's the best long term regimen. You can calculate your BMR here and then you multiply it by your activity level. If you eat 500 less calories than that in a day, you lose a pound a week.
For working out, I love pilates classes. I have heard great things about the 30 Day Shred on here but I still haven't tried it.
Good luck! Oh, and you can check out the Workout Buddies thread if you want to have the girls here at WB keep track of you! Rosie Girl posts a new thread every Monday.
I totally recommend yoga and pilates combined with cardio. My favorites are spinning classes and running. I eat really healthy though. You may want to consult a nutritionist. My parents lost 30 lbs. each just by changing their diet.
I also drink 8+ huge glasses of water a day and mainly eat lean proteins (fish, chicken) and veggies. My snacks are fruit, yogurt or string cheese and nuts (almonds mainly). I have lost 10 lbs.
Oh and spinning class is great cardio if you can handle it. You don't always have to increase the resistance when they say so. If you are already tapped out, then don't do it.
Well im getting married in sep and i keep saying march will be my month i start getting in better shape but we'll see haha I do love pilates, hiking, and jogging. Me+Gym=Hate : )
And water water water even if you dont get the 8-10 glasses of water I make sure I have plenty of watery fruits peaches, plums veggies too celery, tomato stuff like that....i try to keep away from soada it bloats you so much! blah!
It must be nice to be able to really work out. I just had foot surgery a year ago and I'm still trying to lose the weight! I can't jog or run the way I used to to lose weight. I'm hopelessly out of shape and getting married in ten months.
Pilates it is... I lost 70lbs in 4 months but my trainer made me work my butt off. I literaly crawled out of the room.
ive cut soda from my diet - and it was diet soda, and still lost 8 pounds with just that. so i drink more water, signed up for a 5k - to force myself to work out and get in shape for that in april... and try to work out every other day at least.
its going well, but my vacation this past week didnt help - i fell off teh wagon and im huffin and puffin to get back on! :)
I am also trying to look better for my wedding in June. I have been doing a mix of cardio and lifting to try and lose weight/inches. I also monitor my calorie intake. I recommend myfitnesspal.com to help you track what you're eating. Here is my workout schedule:
M, W and either F/Sat/Sun 35 min cardio, 20 min of lifting
Tues & Thur: 55 min spinning class
I've been doing this since early January and have lost about 5 pounds, 2 inches around waist and hips, and 3 inches around chest (not boobs).
Hope this helps.
I've been tracking my calories with www.FitDay.com! It also will suggest the number of calories you should eat, your weight loss/gain, as well as the nutritional value of the food you're eating. :)
I lost 10 lbs (in 2 months) by doing spinning and Pilates (alternating in other cardio and weights on non-spinning/pilates days) and by trying to eat better. Snacks were cheese and whole wheat crackers (especially before spinning) or celery and peanut butter. I've been bad lately with the chocolate (hormones), so to counteract the poor diet, I've uped my workout intensity.
Calories in < Calories out.
@auddurz91 I completely get where you are coming from. I was scheduled to have surgeries to repair damage from severe tendonitis in my ankle, but right before the surgery I found out that my insurance rejected my 13 week PT regimen... so I freaked out and didn't have the surgery because I was afraid that it wouldn't be covered! I"m getting married in November and feel like I've never been in worse shape. I don't even know what to do. Feel free to send me a PM if you ever want to vent or whatever.
WII FIT AND WIIFIT PLUS!!!! i highly recommend it for those bees that are anti-working out! it's a fun way to get your body movin'!
I'm going to do boot camp. I've done it for a couple of years now in the spring. 2x a week for 10 weeks. It meets at a big park and there's lots of running/strength. Classes are the only way for me to go, or I don't stick with it.
I've been doing the 30 Day Shred and cross-training with elliptical, other strength, etc. I plan on doing a few other videos and getting out and running more.
I'm also trying to cut down on my calories and sodium intake!
@Spaganya - I've heard that drinking diet soda doesn't really change how bad it is for you. . . .here's a really good article:
http://www.sciencedaily.com/releases/2008/02/080210183902.htm
I, too, have cut the soda intake WAY back and started working out in mass form. I do taebo which I love because I can do it half-butted or full out and still get benefits. I also am walking on my treadmill when I can, and I'm getting back into my fav hobby with a ballet fit class in March. I don't count pounds, but my waist has gone down 2-3 inches and I am back to fitting into my size 12. Aiming for a size 8-10 by June when my dress gets in and I have fittings.
@Sarah - you're absolutely right. Thanks for sharing the article, not enough people realize just how bad any soda is for you... in some cases I think diet is worse because of the artificial sweeteners. I also lost 10 lbs just from cutting it out of my diet eight years ago.
It depends on what you mean by "wedding shape". For me, wedding shape means I want to tone up my arms and legs since they'll be on show in my dress. So I do Wii Fit Plus a couple times a week for about 30 minutes a time. In 2 weeks I've already "lost" weight just from toning my muscles a little more.
If you want to actually lose weight though I'd recommend the 30 day shred. I've heard good things about Jillian Michaels version - personally I used the EA Active workout for the Wii. I'm a bit like you, anti-gym so doing something in my living room is much more appealing. I lost about half a stone that way.
It's really about food intake! I excercise a lot but cannot stop eating and remain the same. I love my carbs! I am slowly getting better and started snacking on vegies, but it's soo hard!
I have been exercising since late January and haven't lost anything. I did my best to cut out deep fried food and cheese and have been busting my butt in the gym 5 times a week, an hour each time. After reflecting on why I haven't been losing weight, I did a lot of research. The only way to lose weight is to burn more calories than you take in. There are many calorie calculators and formulas online that will tell you how much you need to eat to maintain your current weight and how much for you to lose. I need to keep it under 1,700 if I want to lose weight so that's what I'll start doing, as well as working out. As a poster above mentioned, you can lose a pound a week like this.
I wish it was as easy as cutting something out of my diet but after not seeing results for over 3 weeks (I've been bouncing back and forth between 66 and 67 kilos) I realized that losing weight for my wedding taked sacrifice and commitment. Not eating foods that are really bad for me isn't enough; I require a total food makeover. Best of luck to you all!
