Here are a few things you might want to start working on:

  • photographer and/or videographer
  • STD’s
  • registry
  • tuxedos or suits for the FI and groomsmen
  • invitations (there are sooo many out there to chose from)
  • guest list

Congratulations!   I got engaged 6 months before my wedding date as well and I’ve been really stressed out & wish I had more time hehe. Is your FI helping you with the planning? I’ve had to keep reminding mine to get cracking. (Our wedding is at the end of August and he’s only just asked one of his cousins to be a groomsman last week and he hasn’t even looked at tuxes yet, etc.)

Does your banquet hall include catering or is that a vendor you will need to find on your own? Also would you need to book a DJ or musicians? Will you need to hire a hair & makeup artist(s)? If so, you may need to make time for a trial to decide on your wedding day look. Also, will you have any wedding favors?

Congratulations! We had a six-month engagement, too! You’ve got the big things nailed down already – those took us almost a month! Next probably is your photographer. And your invitations. We ended up just using word-of-mouth for save the dates, due to the time-compression of our engagement. It also cut the costs. In order to do that, you’ll need to know your guest list. There are tons of great options for invitations, and you have plenty of time to choose what you want and look at the different places to order from.

Yay!!! Congrats! I’m a January bride too!

We’ve been engaged for 7 months, but we didn’t do any wedding planning for the first few months, then decided on a January wedding giving us 9 months to plan… hehe.

Ive found the guest list to be the biggest constantly changing aspect of the wedding. If you’re keeping it small, then that shouldn’t be that big of a deal. Also, because it’s small… no need for Save the Dates… I did some… but not to everyone lol. Lots of people I know don’t do them anymore… it’s more word of mouth.

We’re doing a lot of DIY. I found the biggest things to be venue- which you have! food, clothes, and music. Everything else is details.

We just decided on bouquets, and invitations. BTW, vistaprint has a giant sale until June 22! At least they do in Canada.

You’ll get super stressed out, I know I was, then at one point everything will click and it all comes together. Also, yes, my engagement has flown by. It’s over half over. I’m both happy and sad about that. It’s worth it to google wedding lists, if you’re like me half of the things on the list will not be applicable, but it helps to know what you ‘should’ be doing.

Happy Planning!! 🙂

i had a 7 month engagement.  it went fast and slow.  i could have planned in 4 months.  the last feww months dragged when i didn’t have much to do.

go to the knot and print out a wedding checklist.

Congratulations! Agree with winterwoodlandbride15, the guest list has been the biggest changing (& challenging) aspect. has good checklist to give you an idea on typical dates to meet. My biggest advice is, slow down and enjoy this time because it really flies by! I got engaged New Yrs and my wedding is in Sept. I can’t believe how fast it went! One other thing, I picked my dress out on my first visit to the Bridal boutique… I wish I would have waited and explored more options (since there’s much more time when buying off the rack). I have second guessed my dress decision multiple times since I picked it out so early. Happy Planning! 🙂
