It is so hard to give you a good area since Ike.
But I was thinking the beach. As far as I know you can still have it one the beach and just maybe have an open air tent.
You can try the state park but I know they are still limited on what they are doing there. Of course you have the fancy ones of Moody Gardens or Hotel Galvez.
http://www.galveston.com/weddings/ Has a lot of good information. I have been asking around but it is hard since Ike.
I would recommend going down there. Get a list together and just go down there and see.
Hope this helps!
Thanks so much for your help/advice! I was thinking the same since Ike...what a bummer! I love the Galvez and will definitely check it out...where in Angleton are you getting married?
We are actually getting married on the beach in Quintana on the beach. Which I am really happy about since this is us. We did think about surfside and renting a house for the weekend. But that changed to renting cabins on Quintana beach for the weekend.
Well, if you really want to go casual and fun, you could see about renting out the Rainforest Cafe and bringing in barbecue. If you want to go a little fancier, here are some options:
Major hotels with ballrooms: Moody Gardens, Galvez, Tremont, San Luis Resort, Conference Center (part of the San Luis Resort)
Historical sites: Garten Verein, Ashton Villa, etc.
Other places: Gaido's/Pelican Club, Artillery Club (if you know a member)
And, of course, there are countless restaurants.
I think there is a park near Galveston that recently opened up. BBQ might work there.
Offbeat options: Cruise ship, Kemah Boardwalk
Good luck!
Thanks for the input Ivorygirl! I have since looked at a few of those places that you mentioned...thanks again!
went to a wedding at hotel galvez...super fancy. moody mansion i hear was laid back check it out. :)
Hi Kujhawk! I saw your question to me on another thread, but thought this was also a good place to reply. I'm getting married in Kempner Park, where the Garten-Verein is located. The ceremony is in the park, and then the reception will be at the Garten-Verein. The places Ivorygirl mentioned are the ones that come to my mind immediately, but there are lots of great places. PM me if you want more detail on any of the places.
I felt very "eh" about the Garten Verein until i went to see it. it is LOVELY! This is where we're getting married... :D
Oh wow so pretty! Congrats on finding such a great place
Hi girls, bdelfin my reception will be at the garten verein as well! i was trying to scroll down here to suggest it then i saw the PICTURE!! isnt it great, the history behind it is amazing as well, one of the main reasons i love it! i can't wait to see pics of your wedding!
kujhawk04-I was so in love w/moody mansion, and the BISHOPS PALACE is amazing!! but we have too many guests :o( also, a place i just recently found, its hard to find online, but its called the Trube Castle!! its gorgeous as well, i love love it, think it holds 150 people for sit down, 200 standing!!
kujhawk04--did you ever settle on a place in Galveston?
I just started the looking process--I'm from SA, but my fiance and I will be living in Beaumont. Like you, I'd love something casual, on the beach, but with a BBQ reception--laid back and fun.
Let me know if you settled on something...I love your ideas!
We recently did a wedding at Moody Gardens and it was awesome. The aquarium was by far my favorite reception site ever!
Hi rebeccaandchrisitan!
I actually did settle on a place in Galveston but then just recently had to back out of our contract due to monetary reasons. (We're now getting married in Houston at our church).
I was going to have our ceremony and reception at the Garten Verein in Galveston. Like you, we are planning on serving BBQ and I think that this place is a good place to do that. In fact, I've been to a few weddings there in the past few years and they all served BBQ! Maybe you could do a ceremony on the beach and then head to the GV for your reception? Good luck to you! If you have any other questions, feel free to PM me!
I've seen alot of users that have gotten married at Kempner/Verein...but not picutures yet! I'm getting married there in 6 months and would LOVE to see some beautiful weddings held there! THanks!

Hi All--
I'm looking to get married in Galveston but cannot make up my mind as to where! I would like to get married on the beach, so I guess that I need a good reception location. The thing is: I don't want FANCY or FRILLY. I am planning on having BBQ at the reception so that should help dictate where to have it. I just don't know where! Any ideas/suggestions are greatly appreciated!
