Getting Married on Cumberland Island

posted 7 months ago in Beehive

Does anyone know someone who has been married on Cumberland Island, Georgia?   I'm trying to plan an October wedding there and I'm having a tough time with logistics.  I've spoken to the boat captain and a park ranger but other than that there's very limited advice available.

Cumberland is gorgeous!  You'll definitely have an amazing wedding!

Are you getting married at a private home or at the Greyfield Inn?  I would suggest that you contact the Inn regardless, since they are probably the experts on weddings on the island.  They're sure to have some resources that you can pull from!

We're actually going to take a boat over from Fernandina, have the ceremony on the island (at Dungeoness maybe) then have the reception on the boat on the way back to the dock.

I would love to get more resources on cumberland island weddings too. My fiance and I love it there but the greyfield is too expensive for us and not enough room for family and friends. skiv, can you give me suggestions/resources on how you are doing this?

I live about 45 minutes from Cumberland Island (on St. Simons Island) and have been to Cumberland once and love it. It's so beautiful, rustic, remote and lovely.

You probably already know this, but whatever you bring onto Cumberland (food, wrappers, everything) must go back with you. There are no trash cans and very few toilets (I think four on the entire island that are open to the public). I assume this will be a very small, intimate wedding and that you won't have to take anything but yourselves, your attendants and guests and an officiant to the island?

I echo Magnolia's response, and also suggest that you call Cumberland Island and see if they have any suggestions: 912-882-4336.

Good luck! What a beautiful setting in which to begin your marriage.
