I wouldn't even know that that was Devil's Night! Since you're already alterative, I'd have just attributed black and red to that. Do you think people will actually put those together? I totally wouldn't.
I didn't know it was devil's night either and I totally think people would attribute the colors to your personalities...
I don't even know what devil's night is..
Like the dress though - very pretty :)
I think its absolutely 100% brilliant! Its you and your fiancés day therefore it should be an exact reflection of the two of you and who you are. Make it your own. The colors are going to be stunning, I can’t wait until you create an inspiration board – you can use matte blacks shimmer blacks, matte reds shimmer reds, gold crushes to soften it up. How wonderful!!!! It reminds me of Carmen Electra, You’re going to have SO MUCH FUN planning your wedding
I too didn’t know it was Devils Night, haven’t ever heard of that. I am getting married on 10.31.2010 our color pallet is a bit different as we are doing a Masquerade Ball theme
Good Luck and Have Fun!
Wow! I just looked up Devil's Night on Wikipedia and I had NO idea that it originated in Detroit! No wonder it's been a huge deal around here and not well known throughout the rest of Michigan, much less the rest of the country! Well, since then, Detroit has tried to change this night and call it "Angel's Night" so I guess any nay sayers can rest their mouths. :)
Thanks for the replies!
i think it sounds like a good time, and reflects your personality! Plus, i bet the sex is better on that night than angels night, just sayin' haha
@JennHasFeet: That's where I've heard the term "Devil's Night!" The movie, The Crow, which is set in Detroit.
Anyway, I think it's a cool idea, especially since you guys are alternative.
We got married on Halloween. Not a big deal. It was the only Fall date the venue had. I did an Autumn theme. We did have some folks not able to attend due to children's issues.
I've never heard of Devil's Night. It fits in with your style so I think it's perfect!
I've never heard of devil's night, but you and your fi are absolutely adorable and i LOVE the dresses you've picked!
We're getting married on 10/30/10 and we're VERY religious :-) Although, our wedding is going to be purple/blue and not have an ounce of orange/red... lol.
thanks guys! it's reassuring to hear feedback like this. i had no idea that Devil's night wasn't very well heard of. cheers!
@Jennhasfeet- Your dress is GORGEOUS! I have a friend who is wearing a red dress and it's gorgeous. I also am in love with your BM dresses!
I have only heard of Devil's Night in the movie The Crow. I don't think many people would think of this when they see your wedding date. We were actually going to get married on 10.30.10 also but it is FSIL's anniversary and while she didn't mind I didn't want to make them be at our wedding when they would want to be celebrating alone
I think it's a good choice of day!
From your brief descriptions, this sounds very personalized, and I always think that is cool. I'm sure you will get a few odd remarks, but I think this is one of those things where you can feel confident people will come around to see why you are making these choices.
First post for me....
I also had no idea it was Devil's Night. Fiance and I pretty much picked this date as it was late enough in the month as to avoid major hurricanes (south Louisiana) and still be considered "fall". However, I have had quite a few comments like "ooh, a Halloween wedding" which I have to correct.
I love everything you're doing and Jenn you are too cute for words. Congrats to both of you!!
... I don't even know what Devil's Night is. Sooooo I think it's a gooooo!
alright guys, for all of you wondering what Devil's night is...it dates back for Detroit to the 30's where it became a tradition to pull pranks and mischief the night before Halloween. Silly things like Tping and egging...things that didn't cause much property damage. Later (wikipedia quotes the 70s) this behavior escalated into much larger acts of crime such as arson. Since then, it's become "normal" to see houses lit up in flames all over Detroit on this night.
Wikipedia quotes:
"The destruction reached a peak in the mid- to late-1980s, with more than 800 fires set in 1984, and 500 to 800 fires in the three days and nights before Halloween in a typical year."
CRAZY, huh??
Since then, city officials began to change things around and create "Angel's night" to patrol detroit's neighborhoods to bring it to an end.
I was surprised to learn this year that this was strictly a Detroit thing (as violent as these crimes are) but it does also exist in other parts of the world. Growing up, we always heard so much about it, I thought it was a national thing!
I think youre wedding ideas are great! Seems as though it really suits youtwo and thatswhat counts!
I know that day or nigh rather as mad night, not devils night. Same idea though.

Any other ladies planning their wedding for Ten Thirty Twenty Ten?
I didn't intentionally pick Devil's night, but my close family and friends aren't surprised that my fiance and I did. I guess you can say we lead a fairly alternative lifestyle with rock music being the core essential of our beings...and so we aren't completely traditional.
I have no reservations about getting married on this day, but as an individual who tends to push boundaries, the dress I have been in love with for weeks is dark red and I have already made a black birdcage veil with black and white feathers, black satin flowers and black mesh...how many of you think that this is too brooding? My girls will be in black dresses and my colors will be black, white with hints of this dark red and flecks of gold just to warm it up (for the autumn setting).
I've attached a few photos of my dress, my bridesmaid dresses and my fiance and i at a wedding a few weeks back for a bit of a reference. Sorry, I haven't taken any photos of my veil yet.
I'm not worried because everything I've chosen is exactly my style and my fiance is totally on board. I was just curious as to what the bees thought!
