So far so good on the destination wedding. I am super excited. There is one thing that is causing me a little bit of stress – who/how I am doing my hair in Jamaica.
My resort has someone who can do my hair, but I am nervous about this. My problem is that I have no skills, I mean NO skills, when it comes to doing my hair. (or makeup for that matter. Last time I wore mascara I got an eye infection – I only wish I was kidding). I have had my hair done professionally 5 times in my life and I hated it 3 out of those 5 times. Those are not good odds for getting something I like. I don’t know how to tell the stylists to fix it and it just doesn’t turn out well.
I am trying very hard to schedule a ‘trial’ run with the stylist in jamaica the day before my wedding. I am getting my stylist here to figure out the best way to do my hair and we are going to take photos etc. I don’t know if I will be able to schedule a trial run or not, so I am nervous! (jamaica response time is like 3-4 weeks so I won’t know for a while) I can’t do it myself and the vast majority of my friends/bridesmaids have no skills either. So I can try the stylist in jamaica and hope it turns out well and if not pray a friend can fix it – b/c I won’t be able to…
OR I can look into flying my stylist down with me. That is most likely way over the top and I know this – but I am at a loss for other ideas at the moment. So, that is why I am curious what other destination brides are doing?

funny, i am getting married in Jamaica 4 days before you! and i went through the same dilemma about hair and make up!
i know someone else who got married at my resort and she said her BMs brought pics of the hairstyles they wanted, and the hairstylist was able to imitate them no problem. so i think that is key. i also had an experience where i went to a destination wedding as a Bridesmaid or Best Man and i did not bring a picture and i HATED my hair. however, another Bridesmaid or Best Man did bring a picture and her hair turned out exactly as she wanted (by the same stylist). so what i learned from that is that even hair stylists who are not the greatest on their own, can imitate a picture.
So i plan to find photos of the hairstyle i want… and i plan to find photos of front, back, side, whatever it takes to make sure its perfect! i also checked with my resort and they told me i can do a hair trial.
for makeup i am still debating having the resort do it, or do it myself. i think i may hire someone i know in my hometown to teach me and i will buy products, then practice every weekend for a month or 2 before the wedding. so when i get to the resort, i can either have a make up trial or even just rub it off and do it myself if i don’t like it on the day. or who knows, maybe i will get so good at practicing that i will be confident to do it myself! right now i have ZERO skills when it comes to makeup though….

@dynamic_duo: Thank you – you are already making me feel better. That is a great idea for the makeup. I might do that as well. I think I might try to get a response from my wedding coordinator about doing the trial run. I think that would make me feel a lot better. I will probably take me a few emails and maybe a phone call (I don’t rush her unless it is important!) I don’t mind that she is operating on island time, I will be too when I am there 🙂
Where are you getting married? I am getting married in Negril at moon dance villas, and can’t wait!

@Coloradolov: i am getting married at Sunset Beach in Montego Bay. my first time going to Jamaica and I am SOO excited! we will also do a mini honeymoon at the Couples Negril resort.
i am pretty luck with my wedding coordinator, she gets back to me within 2 days always. sometimes faster. before her there was someone else (who no longer works there – that switchover stressed me out a bit!), but the old one would take forever to get to me. now i am happy there was someone new take over!
good luck. the sooner you get things planned out over email the better. and its always good to have everything in writing. i harass my poor coordinator over every detail. but she is so nice about it and responds to every little question!
