Gel. If you forgo the white tips they look waaayyy more natural and are super strong.

@jayelcee85:

Here’s another vote for gel. It’s easier on your nail beds, can last 2-3 weeks, it’s strong and low maintenance. They remove the old before applying a new set, so you get fresh new nails every visit.

Yeah, but the issue with gel is that if you ever want them off, it’s a sumbitch!! At least that’s what I was told by the salon I had mine torn off at.

For my best friend’s wedding, I got gels because I had no idea what they were, and they cost $100!! They were gorgeous, but when I decided I didn’t want them any more, it took acetone and a dremel to get them off and my nails were DESTROYED.

I haven’t even put nailpolish on since that day, I was so traumatized, haha!

Gel!  There’s no paint on top so you can immediately get in your purse and stuff…  I think it is similar to acrylic in getting it off and after-effects on your nails.  It also seems that they can get the gel a lot thinner than acrylic so it looks more natural.

I got color gel on for my cousins wedding.  It last 2 weeks and was not a pain to remove at all.. I just dipped my nails in a little bit of pure acetnoe and it peeled off. Painless and did not leave my nails brittle or weak, the way that acrylics nails have in the past.

@jayelcee85: I bought pure acetone at the drug store.  They had it right next to the nail polish remover.

@OhBeeHive84: Wow, I must have had some crazy kryptonite gels. They literally had to break out the sander after I soaked in acetone for a half hour and made no progress.

The secret to removing them is that you have to break the gel seal first by filing them with a coarse file. THEN soak them in acetone.  You can even take off toe polish with gels on and they still olook as good as new, so not surprised they couldn’t soak yours off if they didn’t file them first.

I vote for Gel! I’ve had gel nails for over a year straight now and they hold polsih well and never break. They’re also not as tough on your natural nails as acrylic, which I did have in the past as well.

My mom goes to the same nail tech and gets a new thing called shellac. Its nail polsih that stays on without chipping and resembles a gel. Her nails look just as good as my gels. She had to switch b/c she’s a nurse and the hand sanitizer she was always using at the hospital really dried out the gels.
