hi bees,
thought of starting a threat to exchange experiences for those who are just getting off birth control for the first time - anyone wanna play?
and hopefully we'll be able to graduate into a POAS board soon (still learning abbreviations...)
how do you feel? excited. nervous and terriefied of what lies ahead!
which type of birth control have you been on and for how long? pill, 13 years
side effects? a little bit of skin problems
are you ttc right away? yes
married for: 5 months
other: am imagining pregnancy symptoms :-)
favorite pregnancy-related abbrevation? big O!!
good luck to everyone!
I'm not TTC (yet) but I did go off my birth control once after being on it for 10 yrs and can I tell you? My skin over-reacted like crazy!! After 3 months of being off and my hormones not regulating, I eventually went on bc again just to fix my skin. So when I"m ttc, I'm dreading going off the pill...
I cam off the pill this summer.
how do you feel? I was pretty anxious because I didn't know how my periods/period pain would be since I have Endo - actually feeling better so far
!which type of birth control: most recently, Yaz
have you been on and for how long? pill, 8 years
side effects? more breakouts around the time for my period, more PMS symptoms, and wonky periods that are still a bit unpredictable
are you ttc right away? nope
married for: 6.5 months
other:meh?
favorite pregnancy-related abbrevation? BFP
@Aisling10: i had the same concern as i had a lot of skin problems before getting on the pill, now have been off it for around two weeks and nothing too scary happening yet. and my mom said that once she was pregnant, she had the best skin of her life! keeping my fingers crossed for you when your time comes!
@misskoala: the wonky periods also worry me a little, will be interesting to see how long before kind of regular...
I just took my last BC pill on Jan 28th!
how do you feel? So excited...and a little nervous!
which type of birth control have you been on and for how long? The Pill for 8 years.
side effects? Headaches and hot flashes
are you ttc right away? yes
married for: 8 months
other: worried about how my long/wonky my cycles are going to be right off the pill.
favorite pregnancy-related abbrevation: BFP!
@zen bride: they're getting more regular, but still kind of hit or miss some months. I can have normal 28 day cycles for a couple of months and then have a shorter cycle. I haven't had anything longer than 29 days. I haven't been charting or anything, so I'm not sure if I'm ovulating.
@zen bride: thanks zen bride...I'm crossing my fingers too! It's weird becasue I've never had problem skin before, even in my teens, other thanthe occasional breakout, maybe that's why it was so devastating for me, because I didn't know how to fix it!
I came off the pill a few months ago.
how do you feel? I was nervous that I wouldn't get a period naturally.
which type of birth control have you been on and for how long? Originally on the patch from 16-23, then the pill from 23-24.
side effects? Not too many. Mood felt stable, sore boobs around the same time each month now.
are you ttc right away? We were NTNT for 2 months, and then TTC for the last 2 months
married for: 4.5 months
other: Have had two very regular 27-28 day cycles so far! Very happy about that.
favorite pregnancy-related abbrevation? None. Haha I don't love any of them.
Hi there!
I came off of BCP's after Christmas.
how do you feel? I'm actually feeling great and a bit relieved at the same time. I was worried that I wouldn't get my period for a while and she showed up a couple days ago.
which type of birth control have you been on and for how long? Orthotricyclene, 12 years
side effects? Slight increase of acne prior to period. Feeling ovulation cramps more now.
are you ttc right away? Yes! Currently on CD2 of Cycle 2.
married for: 1 year and 7 months
other: I've decided that I'm not going to use pregnancy tests until after I miss my period from now on. I think they're crazy expensive and just make you "looney" when you use them repeatedly!
favorite pregnancy-related abbrevation? All of them. I saw a license plate the other day that said, BD. I never would've thought of "Baby Dancing" (sex) before now!
Good Luck Ladies!!!
how do you feel? Glad to stop taking drugs every month after 8 years!
which type of birth control have you been on and for how long? The pill from ages 18-26
side effects? Anyone else really...craving sex a lot more? It's only been a few weeks, but I feel like my sex drive is much higher. Sorry if TMI!
are you ttc right away? No, not for at least another year.
married for: 8 months
other: While we both want to wait, we both have a bit of baby fever--seems like being off the pill has made it even more serious!
favorite pregnancy-related abbrevation? BFP :)
It was a year ago for me, but I figured I'd share my experience too :)
how do you feel? I was really happy. It felt nice to have sex without worrying about anything. That was the best!
which type of birth control have you been on and for how long? It was junel fe generic, and I was on it for one year.
side effects? Weight gain, not sure how much of it had been from the pill or being recently married??! But I gained a lot of weight the first year.
are you ttc right away? yes
married for: We had been married for 10 months when I went off the pill
other: It only took four cycles to get pregnant. I am sure a lot of it was because I hadn't been on the pill for very long, I think that makes a difference. It waas nice getting off the pill too because it had finally regulated my cycles. I only had slight deviations.
favorite pregnancy-related abbrevation? BFP of course!!
This is my second cycle since stopping the pill.
how do you feel? I'm feeling good now. I've been working on losing weight and I feel like it's helped me lose some of the bloat.
which type of birth control have you been on and for how long? Ortho Tricyclen Reg/Lo for 10 years, on and off. Most recently I was only on it for a year.
side effects? The first couple of weeks after stopping were rough. I was very moody and I also had some skin breakouts. My cramps during AF were definitely worse than before.
are you ttc right away? No, we want to wait a few months in hopes that FI's lands a new job and we want to move to a new apartment.
married for: We will be getting married in April.
other: I am charting and I was really surprised that I ovulated on my first cycle. This cycle I knew I was ovulating and I said to FI - "are you sure you don't want to make a baby this month?"
favorite pregnancy-related abbrevation? O!
how do you feel? happy about not pumping my body full of hormones
which type of birth control have you been on and for how long? pill, 3 years
side effects? my period cramps got worse, but just on the first day of period. I also have a longer cycle (30-32 days compared to 28)
are you ttc right away? no
married for: not married yet
other: i have to be careful about using other forms of birth control
favorite pregnancy-related abbrevation? none, I'm not thinking about pregnancy yet
@Aisling10: least now we are supposedly confident enough to deal with the skin problems (plus have a lot more experience covering up with make-up than as teenagers...
)
@melisslp: i'm with you with the pregnancy tests, they are so expensive plus probably you can really drive yourself crazy if you use them too often! maybe if i was nauseuous all the time or had any other symptoms, i might change my mind...
and for those of us who are already ttying (will be great to be in this together and share experiences!) - whom did you tell? i am trying to keep the pressure as low as possible, so so far, only my dh, parents and best friend know. in-laws are DYING to have grandkids so don't want to get their hopes up yet!
@zen bride: We kinda told DH's parents. I'm really close to his mom, so I told her about me getting off BC. I've also told my sister and best friend. I'm not telling any other friends because a few of them have flat out told me NOT to have kids any time soon (and without me even bringing the subject up). Ugh.
I went off BC January 8th. We're getting married April 7 and going on our Honeymoon in May, so we'll start TTC on our Honeymoon. I started charting when I went off and just finished my first cycle. O came on CD 22 and the cycle was 31 days. I am so so happy that I got AF today! I was worried it would take forever. I'm also psyched that my temps and CM all make sense and look normal.
How do you feel? I feel super duper excited!
Which type and how long? was on seasonale for 6 years. It worried me a lot going off of it because I had been used to AF every 3 months and thought it would take longer for me to regulate
Side Effects? My sex drive is through the roof. It's crazy!! Especially right around O. But ugh, horrible cramps right now
TTC right away?Nope, waiting until May
Married for? Negative 2 months
I came off BCP's in September; currently on my 6th cycle. I was home for a family emergency (I live 8+ hours away), and did not refill my Rx.... and I haven't looked back! DH and I are still talking about our timeline, though. I'd like to start ASAP, and he wants to wait, so it's an ongoing discussion. At the moment, we're using condoms :/
how do you feel? happy to be off of BCP and regulating my cycles. It's fun to see what my body can do naturally... yes, I said fun :p
which type of birth control have you been on and for how long? Mircette, 10 years
side effects? increase in sex drive, slight increase in acne before period :(, mood is stable, that's pretty much it. I wasn't sure what to expect, but it doesn't seem all that different.
are you ttc right away? No.... still working on timeline. Hopefully within the next 6mos-1year!
married for: 10 months
other: I'm tracking my cycles on Ptracker for iPhone, including CM, O symptoms, etc. I love entering the info!!!
favorite pregnancy-related abbrevation? TTC... can't wait til we start and I can use that one!
Glad to hear everyone's experiences!
I stopped taking bcp 2 weeks ago and it feels SO GOOD not to have them in my body any more!
how do you feel? normal and excited! I am also a little nervous about getting my first non -bcp period and when it will come, but hoping for everything to be normal! Last time i took a break from bcp it was!
which type of birth control have you been on and for how long? i was on nuvaring for about a year and a half then my doctor switched me to trinessa - i was on it for 3 montsh before my hubby and i decided to stop
side effects? i have been a little crampy but nothing major. and i'm TIRED but i can't figure out if that is my norm or because of the lack of bcp
are you ttc right away? NTNT
married for: 1 year 5 months
other: would love to get pregnant, even if we aren't officially trying. i want a little one so bad.
favorite pregnancy-related abbrevation? bfp!
I've been off BC since September 2011, and it's so great not having to remember to take a pill every night!
how do you feel? excited - cannot wait to start TTC
which type of birth control have you been on and for how long? i was on various types of the pill for about 7 years.
side effects? periods that are heavier and slightly longer
are you ttc right away? no - we are going to start trying very soon though - probably in april
married for: 1 year 4 months
other: have 9 friends who are preggers, so can't wait to join them!
favorite pregnancy-related abbrevation? n/a
I just went off BC the beginning of January. I had one pack left, but decided to just stop while I was ahead. We have our 'honeymoon' planned for April, so I want to wait to TTC.
how do you feel? Strange.. it's so odd not taking a pill every day.
which type of birth control have you been on and for how long? pill, 7-8 years?
side effects? my skin is terrible! got my first perid and it's HORRIBLE. Ugh
are you ttc right away? no
married for: almost 5 months
other: Really hoping my cycles regulate - it's my first month off and I was about 5 days 'late' compared to the pill cycle. I was never regular before though...
favorite pregnancy-related abbrevation? Don't really have one right now?
@zen bride: I've told a couple of my best friends and a couple of co-workers. I soooo want to tell my Mom, but I'm worried how she might respond if we fail to get pregnant (I'm soon-to-be 41 and know the risks are high). My DH hasn't told anyone. He feels we should keep things private.
I just got off the pill after being on it for over 7 years on January 1st.
how do you feel? I was really nervous that I would not even ovulate because I have a cystic ovary and PCOS runs in my family.
which type of birth control have you been on and for how long? The Pill since age 19 (I am almost 27 now). I was most recently on Loestrin 24 for about 4 years.
side effects? Not too many. I was very moody for a few days and had a headache, but by cycle two it was gone. My libido is finally back! I only gained 3 lbs which could also be due to my lack of wedding diet :)
are you ttc right away? We are TTC now but not very diligently- if it happens we will be happy, if it doesn't, we still feel like we have time. I will get into charting etc if it doesn't happen by this summer
married for: since December 30 :)
other: Got my first smiley face OPK today! I was so relieved to know I even have an LH surge- its a good sign for me.
favorite pregnancy-related abbrevation? Um BD is funny, it took me a while to figure it out.
how do you feel? nervous!
which type of birth control have you been on and for how long? pretty much every pill for 15 years
side effects? my periods are all over the place...the cycles are super long. and my sex drive has def gone up! also, i lost a few lbs. i'm glad someone else wrote hot flashes, because i totally thought i was losing my mind.
are you ttc right away? no, we are waiting til after the wedding :)
married for: we are getting married in april
other: started charting too so we can use FAM + POM to hold off on TTC til we are ready
favorite pregnancy-related abbrevation? BD / baby dance :D and "pulling a goalie" hahaha
@melisslp: i guess a little privacy doesn't hurt, but your friends sound really unsupportive!! don't let them get to you, it's your deision after all when you're ready. luckily, many of my close friends already have kids but then there is a lot of judgement about even the idea of being a SAHM :-(.
Has anyone experienced body acne after going off bcp - but have never had a problem with that before? i am 3 weeks off my pills and have noticed a few blemishes (nothing huge) on my chest, back, side. I've never had a problem with body acne at all, so I'm wondering if my skin is just having a moment and dealing with lack of hormones?
@coachwife: yes this happened to me. i stated before that my doctor's solution was to put me back on birth control. However, you can get a mild anti-biotic that you take every day that will keep that in check. I'm on Minocine (sp?) now and my derm told me that it's fine to use until I start TTC and I'll have to switch about a month before TTC (she said if you don't your baby's teeth will be yellow).
@Aisling10: I've been using the tea tree toner from the body shop on my spots and it has helped a good bit! i'm thinking of buying the body wash to use as well ! Its still SUCH a pain!
@coachwife: when it happened to me I broke out everywhere, and nothing i did got rid of them completely. My hormones were sooo out of whack after 3 months I couldn't take it anymore. I tried every home remedy and natural product there was, including tea tree oil. The best for me was a product from LUSH (sorry cant remember what it was but it was grimy and green) that worked fabulously and the AVEDA "breathe" or "breath of fresh air"...something about Breathe or air (lol) spot treatment 9at no less than $30 for a one ounce tube thankyouverymuch...). I was disapointed that my doc wanted me back on BC to fix it, but i was living out of town and going to walk in clinics at the time so didnt feel like getting into a lengthly discussion. And honestly I was so fed up I caved....
@Aisling10: hormones are THE WORST! i seriously doubt i will ever use hormonal bcp again!
@coachwife: I recently went on Micronor generic and it's so much better. I've been on Depo (the worst for acne) and NuvaRing (very good for acne, not great for hair loss, but thats another story) and now im on Micronor and taking an anti-biotic. The only reason I chose a hormonal BC again was because i knew i would only be on it for a year before I got married and wanted my skin under control for the big day. Right after my wedding in June, me and FI will be TTC so I'll go off it anyways.
@Aisling10: i loved nuvaring! i was on it for over a year but was having some break through spotting all of a sudden so my doc switched me to trinessa (ortho tri cyclin lo generic) i took it for 3 months, then we decided to NTNT so i stopped it. but i loved nuva ring!
I want to play! I stopped my BC in October.
how do you feel? A.Maz.Ing! Ahhh...so much better. I was on BCP years ago and had no problems. Then, I went off for a while. When I got back on, I tried two different kinds of BC and felt AWFUL on the last one. I was achy and tired, depressed, and had zero sex drive. I finally put it together that my symptoms might be from my BC and stopped taking it. Within two days, I felt noticeably better.
which type of birth control have you been on and for how long? I was on the pill for several years a few years ago. When I got back on, I started on the pill and then switched to NuvaRing for the last 6 months.
side effects? I felt awful on Nuvaring. See above. Awful. I felt fine on the pill, but I had a hard time remembering to take it every day. I had no side effects coming off the pill, other than just feeling so much better.
are you ttc right away? We are starting this summer. So, we'll have about 9-10 months of using the FAM + barrier method.
married for: 5 months TODAY.
other: I stopped taking my BC mid-cycle and have had three and a half very normal 28 to 29 day cycles. I've been charting last month and this month. Last month I ovulated right at 13 days, so I'm hoping that everything is A-okay with my lady parts. :)
favorite pregnancy-related abbrevation? I don't have one yet, but hopefully in the next year "BFP" will become my favorite!
how do you feel? Horrible. I stopped bcp towards the end of January of this year. I have acne like a teenager, I'm constantly bloated, can't sleep, most of the time I start to eat and then as soon as I start eating I'm nauseous and this may be a bit TMI but AF is supposed to be visiting right now and I wouldn't call what I have an actual period. It's in between a period and spotting. However, I actually have a sex drive again! There is good news in all of this. :)
which type of birth control have you been on and for how long? I started on the patch and then went to pills a couple years later. I was on birth control in general for 8 years.
side effects? The only side effect on the pill at the end I had was a zero sex drive. Actually all the types of birth control took that away. Some of the other pills messed with my mind too much and made me too moody at times.
are you ttc right away? Not yet. I'm on board but DH is still on the fence. For now we're still using condoms.
married for: 11 months
other: I think I'm going to start charting, but I can't tell if I can call what I'm having a period. Can't wait to start ttc.
favorite pregnancy-related abbrevation? I don't have one.
Hi bees, I came off the pill the end of Aug, but I'm going to play along as well
how do you feel? I was super excited cause it was a huge step towards TTC, but it just ended up being long frustrating cycles with no o.
which type of birth control have you been on and for how long? pill, 10+ years
side effects? at first nothing. But My skin broke out in Nov, and I've since gained 20 lbs...
are you ttc right away? unfortunately no. Our plans are on hold indefinately until my job situation becomes more permanent.
married for: 6.5 months
other: I had 3 40 day annov cycles, and then o'd on CD 36 of cycle 4. Here's hoping it's a little earlier in cycle 5!
favorite pregnancy-related abbrevation? POAS
How do you feel? I got off the pill a few weeks ago and so far it feels great to have my sex drive back!
Which type of birth control have you been on and for how long? The pill for 3 or 4 years
Side effects? None yet, but I was under a lot of stress when I came off the pill so I'm worried about when AF is going to show!
Are you ttc right away? We're shooting for may or June, but if it happened sooner I wouldn't be upset ;)
Married for: 1 year 4 months
Other: We're just using the POM for now
Favorite pregnancy- related abbreviation? BFP makes me :)
