My fiance and I are different as night and day. We're not even closed to compatible, other than the fact that we have the same title where work is concerned (we don't work together), so he is the ONLY person who understand what I do for a living and vice versa, other than our coworkers (we're geotechnical engineers).. Surprisingly, this one bit of similarity has pulled us together and kept us together (going on 4 yrs). He's catholic and I'm buddhist, he's mexican and i'm vietnamese...and i can't eat mexican food while he loves mexican food and not too fond of asian food. We understand our differences; religions, tastes in music, food, recreations...you name it. What we have faith in is that we both truly are better when we're together.
I was a mess before he entered the picture, and he wasn't in a healthy relationship either (even though he was with someone who loved cooking mexican food, had his religious background, the whole thing!). We've had our differences, but we're always able to talk it over and move on. We essentially can't see living without the other which help us to get over small hurtles.
