Getting the hang of reading OPKs…is this positive or negative?

“Positive enough”. I believe that people worry too much about positive vs negative. If you take one tomorrow and it’s lighter than today’s, then you’ll know today’s was positive. A positive OPK doesn’t mean you’re ovulating right that minute, just that it’ll happen soon. So no big deal if you can’t pinpoint the exact moment it happens, as long as you know approximately when it was positive. Good luck, and go BD!

I’d say not quite, but almost there.  I also had to test multiple times a day to get a true positive (hopefully that works for you, too!) – that’s actually what drove me nuts about OPKs and why I stopped and just charted.  But if your tests start getting lighter, you might just have a suuuuuper short surge that’s hard to catch (in which case I’d count this as your +).

ETA – it’s not bad to ovulate around CD24, there are plenty of ladies on here who are regular late O’ers.  It might also just be that your body is still adjusting.  FWIW, my ovulation dates ranged from CD16-CD23 during the year I charted before TTC.

For me, that was as dark as it got as well, and I ended up getting pregnant so I know it was a positive for me!

i usually mark that as a positive. It would probably be a positive in a few hours or was a positive a few hours ago.

Mine never get that dark unless i am hitting my surge. Test tomorrow and if it is lighter you know that you hit the LH surge. Get buuuusssssyyyy

That was a negative for me.  My test line was clearly darker than the control when it was postive for me.

Weddingobsessed: that result was not positive IMO. Definitely keep testing but keep BD every few days too in case OPKs don’t work for you. I wouldn’t mind betting you’ll get a clear positive in the next 24 hours. As for your question about a short surge, I don’t know whether it means you’re likely to O sooner but my instinct says no.

Weddingobsessed:  There we go! That’s the clear positive. Yep you’re going to O within the next 48 hours. So go forth and procreate! (Assuming that’s what you want!)

Weddingobsessed:  That second test is definitely your positive!  As far as your question about a short surge, I don’t think that necessarily means you’ll O sooner, just that the peak LH levels don’t show up in your urine for very long.  I had a short surge, and I still O’d a day or two after a positive.

Truffle-hunter:  Bang on with your opinion/prediction!

Weddingobsessed:  IMO, the first was negative and the second one positive. I’m a big believer in following the instructions and they clearly say that if it is not as dark or darker than the control line,  it is NOT a positive, doesn’t matter how close it is. But anyways…congrats! Hope your getting busy 😉
