Hey guys, we've been thinking about buying this ring as my wedding ring:

As the design is pretty simple, what do you think it'd cost to buy a diamond like that? I'm just wondering whether getting the ring made myself might be more affordable.

Anyone else had their ring made specially?

I had my wedding band made to fit my ring.  When we were originally shopping for bands, we went back to where my husband got my engagement ring - and they were ridiculously priced plus it didn't sit exactly right with the shape of my engagement ring.  The shop that made my ring was able to line up my band with the engagement ring perfectly and he was cheaper.  I'm not too sure how much the diamond would cost but found that it's the material the band was made out of that was the costly part.  My ring and band are both platinum so that was the pricey part - not the diamonds.  I would definitely shop around and see how much it would cost to have it made.  Good luck & congratulations!

I like the look of that ring! But you should definitely shop around. In this economy, I think plenty of jewelers would be willing to work with you to make this ring (or a similar one) and might be willing to budge on prices.

I had my ring specially made, although it wasn't a unique design - just made to fit my finger and using the gemstones I wanted. Luckily, we knew the jeweler and he gave us a good deal.

There are SO many variables when purchasing a diamond that really determine its price, even by just size.  Mr. Gloss had my e-ring made and working with the jeweler was a great experience for us.  He was going to purchase a center stone that had a high clarity rating, but after talking it over with our jeweler we went with a lesser clarity and better color.  The jeweler hand-picks all his stones so that the inclusions (which you could never see with plain eyesight anyways) are further hidden by the prongs.   We are planning on returning to have our wedding bands made – and the turn-around time was really great, especially for a custom piece!
