Nope, thank goodness. But for what it's worth, one of the Pills I went on, I had pregnancy-like PMS symptoms, the other I never have. The one with the symptoms was a generic, and I totally psyched myself out. I was so nervous for awhile!
I, personally, have never had mine fail. BUT I know 3 people that it has happened to. My MOH was a "whoops" pill baby. Of course, that was in the 80's so I'm sure the formula's have changes A LOT since then. My cousin was also a baby born on the pill, again this was in the 70s right after the pill came out.
More recently, a co-worker of mine got pregnant on the pill. She had her baby in September. I'm pretty sure she was messing hers up, though.
I do know that I have felt that way before (I've been on the pill for 3 years). I get tired and bitchy. I get that weird, crampy, dull feeling in my female areas and lower back and my breasts swell. It happens. My doctor told me that it happens sometimes if too much of the hormones build up in your system at once.
Not me but we've had a friend that did. They got prego on the honeymoon and she was on the pill. They were shocked because she had been on it for so long.
Not me, but my SIL got preggo a year into their marriage by accident. She was on the pill and hadn't planned on having any more for a few years.
But i wonder how many accidents are people who take it every day vs people who take it at the same time every day? I'm a same time kind of person....but i know plenty who are not.
I know someone who got pregnant on the pill, but frankly I'm pretty sure she missed hers a lot.
@lilyfaith - I am hoping your generic vs name brand theory is right! I just recently went to a new gyno, who wrote me a new script for BC. The packaging looks identical, and I just assumed it was the name brand stuff... same stuff I'd always taken... but maybe they sustituted a generic and that's what's wrong.
I've seen patients get pregnant on the pill. Oftentimes I think it's because they were taking it inconsistently, but I've seen a few get unlucky because they were on antibiotics or overweight (both making the pill less effective).
It's pretty unusual to have an accident when taken 100% correctly, but there's a reason it's only 99.6% effective when taken perfectly.
I always say that nature tries to find a way. Maybe peeing on a stick will ease your mind :)
@ MrsDG - I'm allergic to antibiotics (except the Z-Pak), and I'm at the perfect weight for my height. 5'8", 130lbs.
For the record, sticks scare me. You pee on one of those, and your whole life changes. :(
@Miss Snowflake: I recently had a scare and for almost a month I was going out of my mind crazy. One night I decided to just go for it and peed on a stick. I knew no matter what the result, just finding out would make me feel better. Luckily it was negative :)
Miss Snowflake this is not directed to you at all but just in general,
I think when people have an "oops" baby when they were on the pill its honestly because they were not taking it consistently like they should They missed a pill or two and figured it wasnt abig deal or they were on antibiotics.
I happen to be an "ooops" baby. :P
But as far as myself I know I had similar symptoms to you when I was switched from one generic to another after changing from CVS to Target. Apparently not all pharmacies use the same generic manufacturers. I think sometimes bodies just need time to adjust.
I used to work with a girl whose husbands parents had like 10 kids and every one of them was concieved while on bc... sometimes multiple types at once (condom + bc..etc). She actually told me that their last kids (twins) were born after she had had a tubal ligation.
I've always wondered if she was full of it or not though because that just seems so crazy! She said they were just super fertile.. yikes!
Or you pee on it and realize that you can exhale :)
I'm hoping this is just a whole bunch of nothing for you, but I can imagine that a pregnancy scare could keep you up at night and anxious all day until you find out..
Osaka, with respect to the statistics, the pill is 99.6% effective when used perfectly. That means that 0.4% of the time it doesn't work.
Regardless, that is still a very low chance for Snowflake!
I'm still kinda freaking out about it, but you girls made me feel so much better! :) :) :)

Maybe I will go get a test, just to put my mind at ease. But if I'm not expecting my period til next Wednesday/Tuesday, wouldn't it be too early to tell anyway?
I got pregnant on the pill and I have a beautiful healthy girl who's 3 now. I have OCD and I took the pill everynight everyday at the same time and I guess I happened to be in that small percentage. I really hate when people judge or think that myself or others like myself took the pill inconsistently or were careless because that would be the total opposite of my personality. There are def. girls out there that are not responsible with their BC but I was not one of them and for all the ladies don't ever think it can't or won't happen to you and I'm not trying to scare anyone but all BC is not 100% effective so there will always be a chance. If I could go back and do it over I wouldn't change a thing I love my little girl to death and if you are pregnant I know you will feel the same about your son/daughter whatever the outcome I hope it all works out for you....good luck!!
There is one brand that says it can tell if you are pregnant like 5 days before your missed period. Not sure what the brand is, but I am seeing the commercial in my head, it has a floating stick.... hmm... I think it's the same brand that does pregnant and not pregnant instead of lines or plus and minus's.
i totally had major issues when i switched to a generic...and no matter what pill i use now, i have issues. i even tried the ring and then had to stop after the third month. i finally gave up and just went off it all together!
*raises hand* Though I was not great about taking it on time, like right on the hour, I took it everyday. Now I have an IUD.
It is really rare if you are very good about it, as you can see from the stats. Though, I can tell you, the wondering is worse than the knowing.
I definetely agree with getting the test! It will be much more stressfull to not know then to take the test. ;)
and Mrs. DG - Oops ! My bad! I was misinformed :
My mom got pregnant on the pill with my little sister. And she definitely took it faithfully every day at the same time. My sister really wanted to be here! ;)
@Miss Snowflake - I got pregnant on the pill when I was in college. It was awful and I was so confused. I should have known better, and been using a second form of bc, but they said it was 99.98% effective and who, when they're 21, thinks they're going to be part of the .02%. I was devastated when I found out - 100% not ready to be a mom, so I made my decisions and did what I felt (and still feel) was right for me.
Anyway, it can happen and when it happened to me I had PMS-like symptoms (mild cramps especially) and my breasts became very tender which had never happened to me before. Now whenever I get my period my breasts get sore, which totally blows. Good luck - I hope it works out however you'd like it to.
It failed. I have a two and a half year old son to prove it.
I took the pill everyday at the same time...for YEARS.
When I told my OB/GYN she said "It happens, one of the doctors here got pregnant while she was on the pill"
pee on a stick..and if you use the one that has the second pink line..dont be fooled..even a very very faint pink line is positive!
ok seriously, put your mind at ease and take a pregnancy test. The "early symptoms" are different for every woman.
You wanna know what clued me in, even before my period was late? I got nauseous after drinking a cup of coffee. And once I threw up I was fine.
Except for the "oh maaaaaaaaaan, this is not good"
Looks like I'll be peeing on a stick in the near future.... sigh.
I'll let you ladies know how it turns out! :)
I also got pregnant on the pill and had beautiful baby girl. No birth control method is 100%, unless you are abstaining.
I didn't read every comment but wanted to add my friend's experience.
They got pregnant on the pill and I'm pretty sure she was very 'regular' with taking it. They've assumed stress in her life affected the effectiveness of the pill. She was a PhD student and preparing for a big conference.
Any big events in your life over the past couple weeks?
I have two little boys, both conceived on bc. I got pregnant with my 5 year old while on the depo shot, and my 2 year old while on the pill. I used both methods as directed. My gyno says some people just aren't as well protected when using hormonal methods. I'm now on a copper IUD until FI gets snipped. :)
I have a friend who used the pill and she said she took it fairly regularly (not always the same time maybe, but every day) and she got pregnant while on it. MrsDG mentioned that it's not always affective with overweight women though, so that could be the case for her since she's obese.
My doctor thought I was pregnant when I was on the pill once and I thought the odds were so low...she said she has seen many "pill babies" so I suppose it is more common than we realize. I am a believer in nature always finds a way, too. I am hoping for your sake it is negative, though :) - let us know!
I'm going after work today to get a test... yes, it took me all weekend to get up the courage.
It's not that it would be the end of the world if I were, DH and I just wanted to wait til after I graduated. But I agree with flbeachbride.... nature has a knack of always finding a way...
my goodness, Miss Snowflake - welcome to my nightmare! I fear getting preggo on the pill, though I take it around the same exact time every single day.
GOOD LUCK on your test!
Got pregnant on the pill a few weeks before I graduated high school... and I was FANATICAL about taking it on time, everyday.
Some little souls just need to be born...
The results are in....
...
..
I'M NOT PREGNANT!!!
I feel so relieved... and just a little sad, lol.
I know exactly what you mean...
I just remind myself how much sweeter it will be when the time really is right and the result comes back differently.
so.... happy exhaling :)
Woo hoo Snowflake!!! And just think of all the agony you saved by testing now. Congratulations :)
It's weird... after obsessing about it in my head all weekend, I was kinda starting to get used to the idea... maybe a little excited... definately terrified. :) I'm going to take the other test in the box in the morning, just to be safe. I know HPTs are more accurate when you pee on them first thing in the morning.
Now I just need to control my baby fever...

I want to know how many of you out there have had "oops" babies... as in, you were on a steady form of birth control that failed. I only ask because I am on the pill, have been for YEARS, and I can't even remember the last time I had PMS-like symptoms.
I've been a nightmare this week. I think my breasts went up almost a cup size (all my bras don't seem to fit right!), I've been sorta crampy... not like period cramps, but more like a general feeling of dull pain all around my lower belly area. I'm so tired I can't hardly stay awake in the evening long enough to just make a simple dinner. In general, I'm a grouchy, tired, bloated b!tch. :(
FWIW, I take my pill religiously at the same time every day.
So hearing from real women... has your BC ever failed you?
