anyone else think the say yes to the dress: atlanta is going to be GHETTO?!
No....
If anything I'm hoping the taste in dresses to be classy and/or have southern charm. I've heard nothing but wonderful things about Atlanta (well, except the traffic. I hear that's the worst in the nation.)
Not sure how it could be perceived as ghetto...if anything I thought of pagents and Southern Belles when I saw the commercials, hardly things I would call ghetto.
I'm pretty offended at the OP's use of "code" words here.
I think the show looks great. I don't know why he or she would say that.
No I am so exicted for it. I love the culture and charm the south has. As some of the other posters said, I am thinking it will be a little more classy.
Definitely not. I'm looking forward to it. There may be individual people on the show whose taste I don't care for, but that's okay. I'm hoping it will feature alot of Southern tradition and charm. I don't see what looks "ghetto" about it. Unless you think Southerners in general are ghetto, in which case I'm offended.
I'm excited for it too! But I did have a chuckle at the "randy" of the Atlanta episode. Something about his just made me giggle.
@rplatzer: I don't think there are any "code" words...it's her opinion and she's entitled to it, as are you entitled to your own.
@christie.l: Ghetto in what way? The term "ghetto" is used in the place of a lot of different words...tacky and cheap are two that come to mind. If that's what you meant, then no...I don't think the show is going to be ghetto.
No. The commercial showed a girl get very excited about a Lazaro dress similar to mine, so I'm hoping mine will make an appearance too.
How can a show based on choosing your wedding gown be ''ghetto??''
I cannot wiat for SYTTD:Atlanta
I am excited for it because I love SYTTD so of course I want more. I am skeptical about their Randy-Lite, though.
The bridal salon is called Bridals by Lori and I actually went there to shop for my dress and it was anything BUT ghetto. It was actually awesome! I didn't get my dress from there, (wayy out of my budget) but the people were great and we had a blast! Sooo.. NO. not at all, and Atlanta as a whole is not Ghetto. In my opinion at least.
I think it will be unique and different from Kleinfeld, but still interesting and classy. I almost went to Bridals by Lori, but I read the reviews of the business, and they are HORRIBLE! HORROR STORIES of the shop ordering 10 sizes, yes TEN sizes, too big! There was another review where alterations trashed the dress with dirt. My goodness. I've seen alterations drama on SYTTD, but the bad reviews were about 50% for Bridals by Lori and I stayed clear of the boutique.
I havent seen the previews (have there been any?) so I am not sure what this post is supposed to imply.
I would be excited to see a new SYTTD though!
I don't see why it would be ghetto. What do you mean?
Christie, not sure what you meant by Ghetto (but at least you are keeping it real). I belive if they do the show in Atlanta it will be the upscale side of the city not small boutiques.
Now, I wonder if they will ever do a Say Yes to the DRESS: Los Angeles
Hmmm...wonder what part of the previews (Black = Ghetto huh) caused OP to assume the show would be "ghetto"?
People will travel from all over the country (as with Kleinfelds), especially with the salon now being on television. smh...
I think it's going to be cheesy. I don't really know why they're doing a ripoff of SYTTD, but then again they did it with all the Real Housewives shows too.
I think it's great to showcase southern brides and more pretty dresses, but it just sems too copy-cat for me. i only saw a preview, but a gay consultant/fashion director? Really? I know SYTTD didn't invent the concept, but still..
Nope I don't think it will be ghetto. I'm excited for it, i've seen all the old YSTTD so i'm really excited for new people.
I don't know that its going to be as great as the original, but I think a new show is always exciting!
However, I definitely think there are some racial implications by saying it will be "ghetto". Not a fan.
@MindyLou: Oh my gosh that's crazy! I wonder if they intentionally chose that store because of the poor reviews to create drama. Terrible!
they shouldn't have a spin off..i don't think it will work. They have another show that is/was similar-i forget the name of it and what channel (ya..it was that good). Something about the Stardust in Texas. The only thing I can think of is a strip club.
I don't understand why TV exec's have to ruin a good think with spin-offs.
pfft!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
@Ms Sassy: That show was called "Girl Meets Gown". I dont liek it nearly as much as SYTTD.
I dont think it will be ghetto at all! Perhaps a little too glitzy for my taste and maybe even a little on the tacky side a la Carrie Underwood. I hate TLC now all their "reality" shows are totally and completely scripted! That new cupcake bakery show is the worst!
Have you seen those cupcakes they look delicious, makes me want to try one of those bacon flavored ones.
@JennyChicago: I agree about the cupcake show.
No it will not be ghetto. I don't see how anyone could draw that conculsion.
Bridals by Lori is one of the most expensive, if not the most expensive bridal store in Atlanta.
Lori's daughter got married a couple years ago and her wedding was on Platinum Weddings (you can see more about it here)
She had offers from Vera Wang, Monique Lhuillier, and several others to personally design her wedding dress for her.
The store is super nice and the furthest thing from ghetto.
Their customer service leaves much to be desired from what I've heard (my best friend got her dress there and said once she paid for the dress everything went downhill.)
I also have a friend who is going to be on a future episode of SYTTD (the NYC edition) and said that the service she got from the consultants at Kleinfeld's was terrible.
Either way, TLC is having a huge party to celebrate the show here in Atlanta on Thursday and they're screening the first episode. I'll report back on how it was :)
@beatriz:Lol they do look yummy, and the sisters look like they are really funny and fun to watch but they ruined it for me because of all the staged scenarios like them having to do 1,000 cupcakes for charity and the cameras just happened to be there, or when they were exlaining the difference between the vinegars to their mom.
yeah did you see the episode yesterday with the mother daughter for some childrens Charity where they had to create a Butterfly theme.
The staged part I feel is the one thousand cup cakes maybe in real life 1000 cupcakes take 8-10 hours to make , I tried to make 15 and it took me 30 minutes for burnt ones. But we got to remember that they have the equipment, people power, and a thing call an EDIting machine.
However watching the show gives you ideas on piping and working on foundant maybe I'll try it for my nephews 2nd birthday.
@beatriz: lol we are talking about two different shows! You are talking about Cupcake wars on the food channel..I actually like that show! ...and yes I watch to much tv!
@queenbecca - my god those platinum wedding pics are ridiculous. do you think brides like that have any investment in their wedding like all of us do? they probably just have other people do everything for them; no personalization whatsoever.
@JennyChicago: It gets poor Christie off the hook for making the comment as "Ghetto" I teach and the old terms like "Ghetto" have new meanings.
I think we should enter the cupcake wars I impress them with my new flavor
" smoked cupcakes" and you can tell a teary story that will help us win the cupcake wars talk about our children (I don't have any) however I can come up with many of my students stories
@QueenBecca037: Oh man, I saw that episode! That chick was NUTS with her 6 dresses. Her Breakfast at Tiffany's shower was way over-the-top.
@amariem25: and @zippylef: Yeah, the wedding was crazy over the top. I know one a girl who was one of her bridesmaids and I remember seeing some pictures from it when they hit facebook.
It was a crazy expensive wedding, but there comes a time when it can be TOO much, and that wedding was definitely it.
If I was going to have a $600k wedding, I sure as heck wouldn't stay in town and have it in Atlanta. I'd fly my family and friends to Santorini and get married there somewhere. But that's just me :)
As far as the 6 dresses go, I think that was probably more her mother's doing than her own. There were all those offers to make her dress I think they didn't want to step on anyone's toes.
I'm sure the show will be entertaining, at least for a little while.
People still use the word "ghetto?"
This post is why I tell my students to expand their vocabulary...
