My god mother got me a solid silver charm necklace for (I think) my 10th birthday and then for subsequent birthdays would buy me beautiful charms to go on it. Now, in my mid 20’s it’s not the most practical necklace to wear (it’s insanely heavy, haha) but it is SO sentimental and I loved wearing it when I was younger. Certain charms really stick out for me from special birthdays or with specific meanings. It’s beautiful and I will have it forever. I thought it was a great idea for a sort of ongoing gift.

If shes your god daughter and would be getting her something every year, have you thought about setting up a “travel fund” in a bank account that you can spend 1/2 the money you would on a gift and the other half to be deposited. This way when she graduates high school or college she can spend some time traveling.  A friend of mine is doing this with her niece and nephew and I love the idea!

As for a gift. maybe take her to get a manicure with you so you two can spend time together?  I bet she would love that!

Along the lines of a charms, I know pandoras are really in right now. I wonder if they make them in a smaller size? I know I love mine and it’s wonderful every time I get a new charm. The charms are anywhere between $20-300 (some have diamonds etc.).

Does she collect anything? That might be something to look into. I know kids of every generation usually have the “in” thing to collect.

If she has a Nintendo DS or something similar you could buy her a game for it?

Gift certificate to a book store. 10 is the age when kids are starting to get picky, so it’s harder to pick things out for them, and they love to shop but don’t have any money./
