Anything to help with the symptoms would be great for me when I was pregnant.

Cocoa butter

Colgate wisps (if they had them at the time, for the random morning sickness that hits when you’re in the worst place to vomit no where near a tooth brush)

Ice/heat packs for sore backs

Seriously, when I was pregnant I needed a bib. Although it may be strange, I would have laughed had someone given me an adult bib. For some reason pregnant women have a lot of spills during pregnancy

Some non caffinated tea

Some cookies for a sweet tooth (or if you can find out what she’s craving the most and stock up)

Tissues for all the incredibly moody moments she has…

Just maybe a gift basket full of small items that help ease some pregnancy symptoms, A little note about helping her through her pregnancy

@kris325:  Love the idea of a homemade gift basket πŸ™‚ Everything that you listed sounds perfect, plus you could throw in a book or a magazine, some cozy slippers, a movie – comfort things! The adult bib made me LOL.

I think a gift basket would be thoughtful!  But I guess everyone likes something different- in mine I would want: Tums, chewable original papaya digestive enzyme, maybe a gift certificate to get under garments (I needed new ones a couple times!), Reed’s ginger ale (actually has real ginger!), coconut water, maybe some dark chocolate.  Those are some of my pregnancy symptom favorites!  I think it is really cool she is so self-sufficient and owns her home and is going solo.  Also cool you are so supportive.

@kris325 and @PermaStudent:  great ideas! Like a “Pregnancy Care Package”….all sorts of comfort things, maybe a gift certificate for a pedicure and “coupons” for babysitting and some books like the Yummy Mummy Manifesto or the Mother of all Pregnancy Books.

Honestly, my favorite gifts were a giant water bottle (to make sure I kept hydrated), a body pillow, and a gift card for maternity clothes. They get expensive and I was trying to do it cheaply until my inlaws gifted me a giftcard to motherhood maternity.

I think the PP have offered some really great ideas. The only thing  I wouldn’t include at this stage is baby stuff. I was giving baby stuff and then had a miscarriage at 10 weeks, having these items in my home for me was devastating and I make sure I don’t gift anything like this until after 12 weeks now!

Pregnancy yoga DVD, a nice robe, a journal for all of the wonderful (and not-so-wonderful) pregnancy memories.

I always give lotions, creams, cosmetic stuff, and women love it cause it’s something nice, for them, not for the baby, and it feels special and splurgy

philosophy, l’occitane, sabon, that kind of thing

Every new mom I’ve given them to has loved Preggie Pops. They are supposed to help with morning sickness.

When I found my my best friend was expecting I sent her a copy of the book “What to Expect When You’re Expecting” as she mentioned she wanted it. Also a little card to congratulate her

Maybe a set of nice PJs? Just something loose and comfy, my faves have always been the Victoria’s Secret “boyfriend” pajamas.

I, too, would stay away from baby items in case something devastating were to happen. I think at this stage in the game I might also stay away from things that are too “maternity” related (I wouldn’t do maternity store gift cards, maternity pj’s,  etc.).  Like a PP said, a copy of “What to Expect” would be nice.
