A coworker of mine is pregnant, while she is 33, it was unplanned and her husband is still working on a graduate degree and she has had a hard time finding full time work so money has been very tight. I know she is having a bridal shower with her family, but I would love to get her something. Maybe $15 tops, and while it would be best for it to be practical, something cute can’t hurt either! I don’t know, if there’s anything any bees absolutely loved having (either for themselves or the baby) that might not be something traditionally found on a baby registry. Thanks!

May I suggest a silver spoon? You may even be able to get one second hand. It’s a sweet idea and can be an heirloom!

@love108: I would try to get something off of her registry (if you know it) if she doesn’t have a lot of money. She probably registered for things she really needs. If she gets a duplicate, she can just take it back then too.
If you don’t know it, maybe you can ask her what it is? 🙂

@love108: Is this a baby shower or a bridal shower? Not sure if there’s a typo in the OP or not. Either way, my go-to for parents-to-be who might struggle financially is either a gift card to store like Walmart/Target, or diapers. I know those aren’t super cute gifts, though… Maybe you can find an inexpensive kit to make a soft toy of some kind? You can make cute “noisey blocks” with just some fat quarters, some pillow stuffing, and a few little bells.

We had lots of things for baby given to us but one friend made me up a home spa package with nice bath soak, a mini manipedi kit and some lovely moisturiser. It was really simple but when you get so little time to yourself after baby it helps to make the most of it 🙂

@lolita39: I did find her registry online, but it doesn’t seem very complete, not a lot registered for, so I didn’t want to take away from her shower things. Keep the ideas coming! Thanks ladies!

@love108: Short sleeve onesies never go amiss, neither do footie pajamas, especially the kind that zip closed. Clothes are always fun to buy for others.
As far as more unique ideas? Teething necklace, car seat toy (the attach to car seats or strollers and are fun for baby) the nose freida, or a mesh feeder would all be nice ideas.

Hand lotion for mama is always welcome as hands get so dry with all the washing after diaper changing.

I’m all for unique ideas and gifts, but it sounds like from her situation money is probably tight. I would think even a $15 gift from her registry would be better.
I do unique gifts all time and they ALWAYS cost more than $15. For example, I bought one friend a couple of custom onsies from Etsy. I know they’ll get used (and she has clothes on the registry too) but they’re totally her style and definitely get used.
My main baby shower gift is a baby tub filled with bath things – all the johnson’s shampoo/soaps, baby towel, bath toys, diapers, wipes, etc. But, it’s definitely not cheap.
I am getting a friend custom monogrammed pacifiers from etsy. This only works if you know baby’s full name.

Early in my pregnancy I definitely enjoyed receiving pregnancy books as gifts, which can be around $10-15. Expecting 411 is a good one that I got. A baby book is also a good gift. Or a pregnancy journal, where the mom can fill in week by week.

@hippomama: Great idea! Thank you! While money is probably what she needs most, I don’t want her to feel like charity, you know?

Diaper diapers diapers! You can get something cute like a little bib as well, but at the end of the day, diapers are going to be what she needs most!
