I have a gift etiquette question for all of you. I am having a destination wedding and one of my bridesmaids has just told me that she is pregnant and as such, she can’t make it to the wedding (she will be eight months pregnant by the time of the wedding). I am very excited for her as I think she will be an amazing mom. I just want to know if I should still purchase her a bridesmaid gift? I already purchased hand made, multi-string, pearl bracelets for the girls, to go with their dresses. I was also going to purchase pashminas to go with these. Should I give her this gift, or should I give her something smaller? Or should I forego giving her a gift altogether?

I would still give her the necklace…after all, you already have the supplies. I would just say to her that even though she can’t be there, you want her to know that she will be thought of and you appreciate her friendship.

I think that if she already purchased the dress, then propably yes you should at least give her the braclet, but the pashmina would be nice too, besides she can use that when she has the baby too. If she hasn’t purchased the dress, then I think it isn’t necessary, but would still be a nice “really wish you could be there” thing, especially if she is going to help with anything leading up to the wedding.

Sorry, I should have been more clear, it’s handmade (custom made) by a jeweler in Florence, Italy, so I’m not making it. I wanted to get them somehting from the area as I am getting married there. I think you are right though, she would likely appreciate the gift and the thought.

@spicyrutabaga: Something from Italy would be super COOL! Especially if she is missing out on that trip, a great reason, but yet a bummer at the same time, so a cool gift from there would give her a piece of the region.

I would vote yes to getting her the gift still 🙂
