Money is always nice, or a gift certificate to a store to buy a suit.

A nice copy of Black’s Law Dictionary (not pocket-sized) is always a good addition to the shelf, too.

I’m going to second the gift card to a store for a suit/work clothes.  A black’s law dictionary was on my required book list my 1L year, so I already have one.  I know my friends at other law schools have them too, and you don’t really need 2 dictionaries.  Money or a gift card is the way to go.  Law students are poor, so until he/she starts a job, I’m sure the money would be greatly appreciated.
