I think it is up to you guys. There are no written rules about getting wedding gift. I think a card will be nice if it is what you guys want.
I was panning to get him a nice hand-written letter and a watch. I have been discussing this with my FI and he told me "not to get anything." So, I guess we are going to get a matching watch, but not as our wedding present.

It's totally up to you guys.
We agreed not to exchange gifts, so I just got a card, but I gave DH cufflinks. He needed them for his outfit anyway, so it didn't really count.
You dont have to. I will give him a gift and a sweet note. He wont get me anything bc he doesnt know the tradition. I picked out a great gift for him. I cant wait to give it to him.
Edit: I dont even know if it is a tradition or not. I just thought it was a tradition bc it is what I have seen in movies. Yeah, I know I am silly but I havnt been to that many weddings and I have seen a gazzilion movie weddings.
I'm getting him a card and something simple. I'm getting him an engraved pocket watch with a small picture of his father in it b/c his father passed away when he was 6.
We can't afford expensive gifts for each other.
I'm getting boudoir photos done that I'm going to give to him the night before. Then on our wedding day I want to give him a claddagh ring since he lost his about a year ago. I'm thinking of getting it engraved with lyrics from our first song.
I'm not sure if he will be getting anything for me, we've talked about it a few times but we'll see! I think it was actually him that brought it up.
