FH and I are going to a wedding early next month and it was time to buy them a gift so I went to look at the registry on the couples’ wedding website. There was no registry, instead there was a paypal thingy and this message: ‘Since we’re both old enough to own our own homes, we don’t need any household items. Seriously guys, we don’t want that toaster you were plannng to buy us. We only have use for cash gifts.’ UGH SO RUDE.
It makes me so mad when couples say that since they are so adult they don’t need any gifts and then turn around and ask you for money. If you’re so freaking adult then you should have your own money. I don’t have a problem with people politely asking for cash gifts or donations to charity and then providing a registry as a second option. But that kind of condescending ‘we don’t want your stupid gifts but we’ll deign to let you give us money’ attitude smacks of entitlement and I hate it.

That’s just straight rude. I don’t have an issue with people preferring cash gifts… but seriously. Tact.

Ha I’d probably do something passive aggressive and get them a gift card to somewhere funny.

Ugh, that’d piss me off too. So rude. I think asking for cash is rude. I’m sorry, but we can all use some upgrades on our things around the house.

That’s really rude. I would give them a picture frame. I hope they get like fifty toasters.

So rude. Seriously, unless you’re a kid asking your parents for money who straight up asks for cash from someone?
Just don’t make a registry and people will get the hint.

That brazen attitude might mean you’re getting a gift from me. Perhaps one that’s difficult to return and without a receipt.
Catch me on a bad day and you’d definitely be getting the ugliest toaster I could find.

I just wouldn’t give them a gift.

@Ruby-Redshoes: I’d go to the wedding, eat all their food, and give them an unwrapped toaster.

@pinkshoes: +1, they’d be unwrapping a toaster from me & DH. WTF is wrong with people? Cant believe they wrote that. And the way it was written…. “seriously guys”… YIKES.

I honestly do not think this is a bad or rude thing for them to have done. I think it’s fine.

Yeah. That’s no good. I’d be pissed too!

I’d laugh if they get a bunch of toasters now.
