@classical_wolf:  If they insist on giving you a replacement gift, I’d write them a very nice thank you note – nicer than everyone else’s. Really, just thank them profusely and let them know how much you appreciate it. Sorry, that’s all I can think of right now.

I’d probably also file a complaint at the Post.  Did you get their RSVP but the gift card was missing or did the whole thing go missing?

@classical_wolf:  Did you receive their rsvp card?

If there was no gift card enclosed, they likely  forgot  to include it and may now be embarassed.

How did this issue come to be a topic of discussion?

@classical_wolf:  With that information I think they either forgot to include the card,or are pretending they included it.

@classical_wolf:  My first thought was that someone stole the gift card (I work in the criminal justice system, can you tell? lol). But if the envelope didn’t look tampered with, I think julies1949 is right, maybe they forgot to include the card and are embarrassed now.

I imagine this must feel very awkward for you but this person obviously loves you enough to want to give you something even though you don’t expect it. That’s pretty great, isn’t it? 🙂
