I am having this problem, too! Flowers are really expensive so I am not getting the reader (fiance's uncle) a bouttonniere but I will probably get a gift card to a restaurant for him and his wife and kids.
It's hard to say what kind of gift you should get for your reader. If you think she is into stationary, get it. I love stationary but I never use it! I personally don't even know what a book embosser is.
@littlelucygoose: I provided a link in the post. I stamps into a page, like the title page of a book, to indicate that it's yours. We're all big readers and researchers, so we have a lot of books.
We're doing small gifts - about $25 max - for our 3 readers, and a slightly bigger one for our officiant (also a friend). I don't think we're going to do bouts/corsages, though.
@brenda.m.fields: Oh, well that's pretty cool then. I have a ton of books, too, I think that's a pretty unique idea!
By the way, we are date twins! 3/3/12, yay!
@littlelucygoose: Yay! Just 33 days :)
we were going to give them flowers but ended up changing our minds. We gave them $25 gift cards
@Gabrielle123: Gift cards are a good option. Thanks :)
I've been a reader a few times and never received flowers. I didn't assume that I would. I only received a gift once and it was a thoughtful sweet surprise. It wasn't necessary, but very much appreciated.

We're having two friend's read for us during our ceremony. I have two questions.
1. Do they need corsages?
2. Do I give them gifts, and if so, what? I was thinking about giving them copies of the text they are reading from, but one is the Bible, and I know she already has a few copies. I was also thinking of stationary, but is that lame? Another idea was a personalized book embosser (something like this but with EX LIBRIS and their last names/initials). If I get them a gift, the most I can really spend is about $50 each.
