    I think most people will probably bring a gift, but I don’t necessarily think it’s required. I think a card like the one you would have liked to have received would be enough, in your situation 🙂

    @mightywombat:  We are having a very small wedding for immediate family in May and then a larger reception in my home country in August. We are expecting gifts, but don’t think we will get as much as we would have had we gone the traditional route.

    I would bring a gift or cash, but feel fine to not spend quite as much as you normally would.

    Personally, I wouldn’t give a gift for AHRs or post-wedding receptions. Some people will probably give them, but I bet a large number won’t.
