I opened them right away so I wouldn't have to remember to send a thank you later.

We are receiving gifts in the mail at our house before the bridal shower and wedding has even taken place and are not sure whether they are shower or wedding gifts. We would like to be surprised and open them after the wedding, but not sure what the expectation is of those sending gifts early. What is etiquette....should we be opening them now and send a thank you now, or are we suppose to wait until after the wedding to open them and send the thank you at that time? We want to do what is right and be sure to show our appreciation. Please help!!!
