I’ve never been a bride before, and I’ve never been a bridesmaid so the whole bridesmaids gifts are really starting to stress me out. I have 6 maids and 4 of them are flying from the other side of the country and I want them all to know how much I appreciate them standing with me. For gifts I started with hair and makeup, I have someone coming in to get everyone ready in the hotel room at my cost, I have also created a bridesmaid survival kit (photo attached) In it I added Champagne, an etched wine glass with their name and position in the wedding, a embroidered silk robe to get ready in, tampons, thread and needle, lip gloss, Tylenol, wet wipes, lint roller, hand cream, sanitizer, band aids, tooth brush, tooth paste, mini perfumes, face wipes, safety pins, bobby pins, and I think I’ll add a small bottle of water and a travel size hairspray. I’m also ordering them each a custom made necklace made locally with sea glass and bronze, orange and pearl accents.
Im just not sure whats acceptable to give someone, what’s expected, or what’s overkill…..please help.

@TraLo: I think what you’ve done is more than generous! I am giving my girls gift baskets with Bath and Body Works shower gel, body lotion, lip gloss and a candle. I think you’re good 🙂

I don’t consider hair and makeup a gift since you want it for the wedding. The survival kit sounds nice, but again, I wouldn’t consider it a gift.
Bridesmaids gifts are usually things you didn’t give them in order to be in the wedding.
The robe is nice, as is the champagne glass, but I would never use it again (When was the last time you saw anyone drinking out of anything that has a wedding title on it outside of a wedding?)
Typically people give jewelry or something that is of a relation to them and the bridesmaid.

love it! I’d be thrilled.

I would honestly be kind of ‘meh’ about all the random toiletries…but I’d feel like the champagne, glass, jewelry, and robe were awesome!
@Hyperventilate: She did say she was giving them jewelry, too.

I think it wonnderful and I’m sure they will be beyond pleased 🙂 but I am biased as I did something similar 🙂

I think it is above and beyond and very cool. I love the idea!

@TraLo: I think that is awrsome! I would be pretty insulted if any of my maids turned their nose up at any gift I gave them. It’s a freaking gift! How can you say it’s “not enough”? AND you are getting them customer jewellery! Holy Canoli lady, can I be a bridesmaid ;P

Sounds lovely to me! I think the combination of getting ready stuff and the lovely locally made necklaces will be awesome! Do all of your girls wear jewelry?
For mine, I got them all something different, although it’s mostly jewelry. But I made sure to get them something I knew they’d like. For one girl, I found a pair of hand enamled pinwheel earrings, because she is getting married next year and is using pinwheels instead of flowers. Stuff like that.
I think your gifts are great though! They’ll love them. 🙂

I think you are giving great gifts: necklace, robe, champagne glass, survival kit. I also consider the hair and makeup gifts as well but you will hear a lot of bees say that anything wedding related isn’t a “gift.” In my opinion, if it is coming out of my pocket to pay for it, it is a gift. I am sure someone will tell me I am wrong. I believe its the brides decision to give BMs what you want to even if it is wedding related. I purchased shoes for my BMs as one of their “gifts” and got some crap about it on this site…its still going to be one of their gifts lol!

Really generous and lovely! It sounds a combination of very practical, luxurious, frivolous and yummy. A perfect mix. I’d be so stoked to get any of those things let alone all of them. Have a lovely wedding 🙂

I would be delighted to receive such a gift, donate all the random toiletries to the local battered woman’s shelter, and enjoy the remaining items very much.

Sounds lovely to me, I would be very pleased with that. I’ve never been a bridesmaid either so similarly had no idea, I think yours is more generous than mine! I’ve got mine:
a very pretty art deco style jewellery box which contains
Necklace, bracelet and earings to wear for the wedding,
Small bottle of Sambucca
Fake moustaches (don’t ask – but these always come out at our parties so they are a must!)
I may see if there are other small things I can fit it.
I paid for their dresses as they are orange and I thought it was mean to make them buy their own orange dresses. I’m also covering their makeup.
They are paying for their shoes and hair.

@TraLo: I think it sound wonderful. If any of your BMs do not like it, you can ship it to me! I’d love it 🙂
