I've seen really cute gift bags of soaps and bath poofs -- get it? shower goodies? Gift certificates (like for spafinder.com) are also great, and totally appreciated. For the hostess, I'll probably spend about $20-30, and $10-15 for planners who assist. Hope this helps!
I've never heard of giving a gift to the "shower throwers"! I have thrown TONS of showers (baby, wedding, what have you) and I've never received a gift! I will definitely be writing them a thank you card just as I would for the guests who bought me gifts, but i'm not planning on giving them anything monetary. As long as they know you appreciate what they did for you :)
I got each person who threw my engageemnt party al ittle gift. I got them each a damask and pink box with a matching photo album, and address book. I got everything at homegoodsm, so I spent about $15 per person. They also happen to be some of my bridesmaids, which is why I thought it was cute to get an address book and photo album.
I got my FMIL, who just threw me a shower, a container of republic of tea: british breakfast blend (keeping with the tea theme and she loves tea :) ) and some lotion from bath and body works. I don't think it has to be much... its really the thought that counts. If you are buying a gift for them, give them something they will be sure to enjoy (I think food and tea or coffee is always a great choice).
My MOH and her mom hosted my shower- I got my MOH a print from an artist we've exhanged in the past, her mom is an avid gardener and I got her a nice set of flower pots.
I bought canvas bags from Hobby Lobby and embroidered (even if you can’t sew, you can have these done somewhere rather inexpensively) their initials on the front and filled them with custom stationary I made on my computer; all using their favorite colors. I also added a hand embroidered, 1 initial handkerchief I made and some candy…I’m on a budget, but since my aunts are throwing my shower, I wanted to do something special, yet inexpensive. For my sister, and MOH, who is also helping out, I am giving her a handmade bracelet a friend is making and a bath and body set; I am giving her an embroidered bag as part of her MOH gift, so I wanted to get her something different. I am also making small favors for some other family members helping out (not to the extent of the hostess); they are small flower pots with a packet of seeds, some dirt pellets, plant food, little flower ground picks (those you use to decorate your lawn), candy, and a note that says “Thank you for making my shower a success…hoping the this plants showers you with…..(still working on this! LOL)” ; I got all this stuff at the dollar store, Target, and Hobby Lobby….Target has a lot of gardening stuff in their $1 bins! Good luck!

One of my best friends/bridesmaid, her mom (who is one of my mom's best friend) and another good family friend are throwing me a shower on May 2nd. I want to get them something to say thank you. What have you/will you get for the people throwing your shower? About how much are you spending?
