I can't say I've purchased our gift for my future in-laws yet. But here are some questions to consider:
What do they like to do when they spend time together? What kinds of gifts have you given them in the past? Are they more sentimental or practical? I.e. would they appreciate a gorgeous framed and matted photo of themselves with you and your husband on your wedding day? Or would they prefer something more in line with their tastes, like a night-out gift basket of a gift card to their favorite restaurant and tickets to a movie?
Luckily my hubby helped pick out his parents gifts! We got his mom (and mind) a necklace from an Israeli artist, and his dad a gift certificate for a game of golf.
I am putting together a frame that says "family" and has two spots for photos. One spot I will fill with a hand written thank you note on paper that matches our colors. The other spot I will fill with a couples photo of us. I will also get a small bouquet of flowers or edible arrangement.
I'm planning on writing them a letter saying I'm really happy to become a part of their family etc. Not sure what else we'll get them. Maybe a restaurant gift certificate?
I don't have anything yet for my FFIL but I found this embroidered handkerchief on Etsy and plan to order one
We got his mom, my mom, and his grandma embroidered handkerchiefs. But his mom and dad have been great in helping with the wedding (we're paying for it ourselves but they've helped a bunch) so we got his dad a nice engraved cigar case and his mom a diamond pendant necklace.
We purchased the same kind of gifts for our parents :-)

Hey Ladies,
this has been the hardest one for me...i have no idea what to get them and the FH is no help. haha
For my parents we decided on 2 nights a beautiful bed and breakfast on The Battery in Charleston, SC. that was easy, its where we got engaged (my parents and FH were in cahoots) and they go pretty often themselves. so that was easy. plus they are paying for the wedding duh, so i had to do something a little more extravagant for them.
Bridemaids, done easy peasy.
even FH...super easy.
but his parents? i dont even know where to begin.
