Since we're not finding out what we're having until we have little him or her (full-term today!), I'll have a second post with the potential boy names. Hubby and I each made lists, combined them, and painstakenly narrowed down. We don't want to share with friends/family so it's up to you to help me realize if any of them are too weird. :) Pretty much the only thing we agreed upon was that we didn't want a super popular or super bizarre name...
The middle name will (hopefully) be Caroline as it was my grandmother's middle name. And our last name is a 9-letter, 3-syllable, "Mc" name.
Thanks, ladies!
I voted for Harper - I love that name!! You have a really great list. The only one I'm not a fan of is Macy because of your last name... Macy Mc----. Doesn't sound too good to me. Best of luck with your delivery and congratulations!
I like Harper and Scarlett but I think Scarlett wins me over just a little bit more.
Hazel for the win! :) Scarlett reminds me too much of the actress IMO, but to each their own!
They all sound great to me! Sorry, I know that's not helpful...but at least you know none of them are bizarre. As far as getting one that isn't super popular, I don't think you're picking any that are super popular yet. However, I myself have also considered the name Scarlett (not pregnant, not planning yet, just thinking about names I like). I don't know how or why this happens, but it always seems like names go in cycles, with many people choosing the same ones around the same time. So it's almost like, if you don't choose a really bizarre name, you're bound to choose one that will become popular! I wouldn't worry about that too much, just pick what you like best and what seems to fit your baby the best.
I love your list! Classic but not too common and kinda fun! The only one I don't care for much is Macy. I like Scarlett and Hazel but I think Piper and Harper are my favorites.... tough call!
And... when you finally meet her/him you may just instantly "know" her name :)
Ladies, your quick response is awesome. And MissMaine, we figure we'll head to the hospital with maybe 3 names on each list and then see what we think when the baby arrives. I don't feel like we have to pick just one. Hubby thinks we should get a year or so to name the baby so we can see what she/he is like first. :) Thanks again, everyone! It's good to know that they're not too weird.
@candicemcc: Great idea! Haha, and tell hubby that you can just call them "anonymous" for a year then ;)
I like Scarlett as a name but I don't really care for Scarlett Caroline Mc-, or Scarlett Mc-.
Not really a fan of Macy. Seems a bit childish. Might be hard in those transition years from 18-25. Also, I don't think the M and the C in Macy would go well with Mc- Last name.
I love the name Harper. The Writer of To Kill A Mockingbird is named Harper Lee.
I like Scarlett and think Scarlett Caroline McGregor (first Mc name to pop into my head) goes together.
I'd worry that Scarlet is going to become really popular because of the actress. I love Harper.
Because I'm a total nerd I did a bit of research for you on the SSA's website re: name popularity. Below are your names with their # of popularity for 2009, 2008, and 2007 (so you can see if they're going up or down):
Harper- 174 (2009), 296 (2008), 439 (2007)... so this name is definitely moving up
Macy- 286 (2009), 280 (2008), 281 (2007).... staying pretty stable
Piper- 147 (2009), 172 (2008), 240 (2007)... moving up and the most popular/common right now
Scarlett- 169 (2009), 210 (2008), 218 (2007)... getting more popular but slower
Hazel- 294 (2009), 343 (2008), 359 (2007)... moving up but still the least popular/common name.
I picked Scarlett. My brother and SIL just had a baby and Harper was on their final 3 list. It got nixed simply cause he was afraid someone would tell her to stop HARPING all the time on crap.
It's amazing how many times i've heard that come up in conversation since he said that.
I love Scarlet and it is definitely my favorite of your list. Harper and Piper are both nice too but Scarlet wins by a long shot for me!
Not a big fan of Macy with a Mc- last name though. Nor do I really care for Hazel.
@CorgiTales: Haha I have a friend who did that to pick her kids names. Not one of them has a name that has been on that list in the top 50 in 100 years.... made some interesting choices!
I think all of the names on your list are great! I like Hazel the best but I don't think it goes with Caroline very well. I love the name Caroline too, that's at the top of my and FI's list for when we have kids. Good luck and congrats on the new baby!
Y'all are so funny! And Corgi, I used that website, too. :) We were trying to stay out of the top 100 but two of our boy names broke through (Cooper at 84 and Parker at 96). I think Harper will gain in popularity because Neil Patrick Harris just named his daughter that. He disappointed me with that. heehee Also, there's a chance that bebe could have red hair. Would that sway anyone away/towards Scarlett?
I can't believe you have Harper on here.... it is literally my all time favorite name. I have been planning on naming my daughter that for eons.... i absolutely love it!
Harper Caroline sounds amazing and you should absolutely go for it! I LOVE THAT NAME!!!!!
My grandma's name is Hazel, so I LOVE that. I also like Piper, especially if she has reddish hair. They are all cute though!
I like Piper and Hazel...Harper and Macy both seem a bit weirder to me. Scarlett I like, but it's a big name...I only think of Scarlett O'Hara.
I think Piper Caroline would be adorable, and like other posters I find that Macy Mc--- would be strange.
But honestly, I don't think you could go wrong with the rest. Good luck and congratulations!
Definitely a fan of Scarlett. I think it's a strong name and if she does have red hair it could be fitting, I think it would sway me more towards naming her Scarlett, she'd be unforgettable :-)
Y'all are awesome. Thanks so much for your input! I agree that Scarlett is a big name (and also think of Gone With the Wind). I don't mind that so much, though, because it was my mom's favorite book/movie and she's no longer with us. It's just so hard to choose!
I like Piper and Scarlett. Piper was on my girl name list but with my future last name starting with a P I thought it would be too much. I've thought of Scarlett as a middle name too so I could have a biased opinion.
I think Hazel is cute. It was also my great-grandma's name and since I'm named after people in my family I've always been partial to family names.
@candicemcc: I love Scarlett, too! Harper was my second choice. My SOs last name is a "Mc" name, too!! Yay for that!
Scarlett Caroline is just a little too "Gone with the Wind" for me personally. But I love Piper and Harper :)
