I like Blaire.  So you're not going to tell us which one you like and which one your husband likes?

I like Blair, but how do they go with your last name? That would decide it for me...plus some babies just LOOK like one name or another.

I think they all go pretty well with our last name.

My hubby likes McKenna and Zoey the best, and I like Gemma and Blaire. I mean I do love McKenna and Zoey as well - it's just so hard to choose! He thinks Blaire and Zoey go best with our last name.

We don't have middle names picked out yet either.

We try to pick names that aren't overly common (generally not in the top 100), but aren't "obscure".

    So in list of popularity:

    Zoey- 47

    McKenna - 228

    Gemma - 449

Blaire - not in top 1000

The poll shows people are pretty evenly split between Blaire, Gemma and Zoey with McKenna bringing up the rear.

My cousin in law was at odds with the hubbie on the name of their girl, so they made a deal that if she had blond hair (like him) then he would get his name choice, and if she had black hair (like her) then she would get the name choice!

The others remind me of soap opera characters.

I have a friend who named her daughter McKenna. At first I wasn't sure of it, but now I like it.

@miss-spunkin I also think that Gemma (and Blair) are strong feminine names. When they get older it grows with them, but I find McKenna and Zoey will suit them while the are babies/toddlers but when they are older it will sound too young.  We named our daughter Leighton (Lay-ton) because we thought it would be a good name when shes older too.

also, I don't want to upset anyone by what I just said.. because I happen to love all those names! It's just my opinion and I happen to like those two more. : ) I'm also speaking from experience with the "younger" sounding name.

@Miss Marbles: I love the name Leighton too! It's another of my favorites haha :) I have soo many favorite names, it's hard to narrow them all down.

That is a good thing to think about, the aging aspect. I also think of celebrities. Such as Zooey Deschanel, I think her name does still suit her and I think she's 30? I don't know of any celebrity McKenna's. And the only Blair I know is from Gossip Girls (which I LOVE!!) - actually the actress who plays Blair is named Leighton :) that's where I first heard the names and fell in love with them.

Guess I'm old...the only Blair I know was on One Life to Live and The Facts of Life.

I like Blair the best though. We were going at it on names, but we decided if baby is a boy, he will name him and if it's a girl, I'll name her. (We're Team Green)

I'm surprised at how close this is! I have to say my hubby is happy Zoey is winning, hahaha! But I figured it would because it's a more common name, and IN GENERAL I see that people tend to feel more comfortable with names their familiar with.

    I like

Zoey (though I slightly prefer Zoe)

Gemma (I don't mind Gemma, but it sounds like a nickname to me and Gemima isn't my cup of tea)

Blaire (sounds snooty and annoying at the same time to me :))

McKenna (I knew a boy named McKenna in HS and even he always had trouble with people making it his last name and using his last as his first!)

    in that order

I'll be honest - Blaire is the only one of those names I really care for.

I find the others to be too obscure (even if they are higher up in popularity - a lot of people are choosing more obscure names as of late) or too young-sounding so that as your child becomes an adult, the name will seem kind of little-kid-ish.

Blair is my middle name and I really, really dislike it, actually. It's a little harsh sounding. Always reminds me of "blaring music" etc

I like both choices you and your hubby have picked. One of my friends had 2 names picked out and when the baby was born they looked at him and thought he looked more like one of the names and not the other. So if it comes down to the delivery room it might not be so bad ;)

I know WAY too many "McKenna"s and "McKinley"s and just "Mc"something names in general and to me, it rubs me the wrong way (right along with Jayden/Cayden/Aiden).  But that is just MY opinion.  :)

I like Gemma a LOT- it's unique and pretty, and the one Gemma that I knew growing up was like, the prettiest girl I've ever met in my life.  If that helps :)

I also like Zoey (but spelled Zoe).  Zoey spelled with the "ey" reminds me of Elmo's little girlfriend on Sesame Street.  I think it translates better into adulthood as well.

I like Blair, but without the e. But I am a huge fan of strong, unisex names.

I am not a big fan of the Mc names - I think they're very trendy. Zoey is too trendy for me, too.  They're not bad names, I just feel like they're going to end up feeling like Tiffany and Crystal do now in 30 years, and like Doris and Millicent in 60 years - which is not to say that those are ugly names, they're just very dated names.

Gemma just sounds off to me.  I know a lot of people like it, and in some ways it's a really pretty name, but it makes me think of something being all gummy.  Which is probably just me being weird, since if I could get past that connection it's actually really nice sounding.

Blaire reminds me of The Facts of Life also.  Which is ok cause I loved me that show in the 80's!  But I voted for Gemma in the poll.

I have to admit I'm a little upset reading some of the response. I didn't expect so many bees to tear apart the names we love for our baby :( I would really like to say that if you can't say anything nice, please don't say anything at all. We obviously love these names, and we like the spellings we chose. Obviously everyone has different opinions, but if you're going to say something negative, I'd prefer for you not to post at all. Some of the comments really hurt my feelings. Thanks bees.

Blair.  Just sounds like a beautiful, powerful woman.  But not so much like a baby (who cares right, you are an adult for a lot longer than you are a child, hopefully).

I know the others have been in and out and are old, but they sound SO damn trendy.  That and I hate most names that start with Mc or Mac.  And also names that have a capital letter not at the beginning.  Sorry for my strong opinion.

@heather25: I don't find Gemma or McKenna trendy at all? I have only met two McKenna's in my life, one was spelled Makenna. My husband is Irish and Scottish which is part of the reason we chose the name, we love the heritage as well as the meaning/spelling.

I've NEVER met a Gemma, I think it sounds like a beautiful, feminine name.

I agree that Blair is such a strong name, I love that.

Gemma and Blaire have a harsh sound to me so I am not a fan of them for girl names.  I like McKenna the best then Zoey as a second.  Zoey is pretty popular right now though so if you want more unqiue maybe that isn't the one for you guys.  Good luck picking though super exciting. :)
