I would say Japan, but March is still kinda cold there. Maybe a Mediterranean Cruise?
We actually don't mind the cold too much. We were thinking about Greece too but my husband is wanting to wait on that trip and see how it goes over there with the riots that seem to be coming and going recently.
I'm going to bump this for more ideas.
I think Italy would be amazing and romantic! Or the south of France...Ireland...Austria and Switzerland...Spain...Australia...New Zealand...
Thanks for all of the ideas! I had fun looking stuff up last night at work and I think right now I'm really interested in Spain or Italy although Ireland is still an option too.
Are you most interested in archaeology/history? Active naturist vacations?
Check out Egypt, Chile (patagonia, AMAZING outdoor activities), or even South Africa you could check out the great white sharks, whales, seals, nature reserves, etc.
Take a train through Russia, visit Cambodia, see Machu Picchu in Peru...
Decide what your mutual interest and surf the national geographic website, there are too many places to even make a top 10 list! What about the Mayan ruins in Central America- you could visit some of the lesser visited ones if you wanted to dodge a lot of the main tourist trail.
Or if refined culture and paved streets is your thing, check out the Netherlands or France.
So many choices, keep us posted!
I agree w/MsMidCentury. What kinds of activities are you actually looking to do? Are you someone who considers relaxing to be sitting at a cafe' in a cosmopolitan city & taking in some museums & some local hot spots? Are you a history or archeology buff who is more inclined to explore ancient ruins? Or are you looking to do adventurous kinds of activities like ziplining, horseback riding, or cave-tubing? Are you into food & wine? Maybe doing some cooking classes & wine tasting & then exploring nearby areas to meet the locals? Have you always dreamed of staying in a castle or chateau? Do you prefer contemporary hotels with modern conveniences? Does the idea of a B&B appeal to you or are you more private? Also, how long can you be gone?
We actually like to do a variety of things on vacations. We love the idea of activities like zip-lining but I guess for this vacation we'd like something more relaxed while still having things to see and places to go. Right now we're thinking Italy would fit what we want because it's romantic and we could explore at our own pace so it'd be relaxed while still really interesting and beautiful. We actually love B&B's too but for a country where English isn't the main language we'd probably stay in a hotel even if it's a smaller one. And we aren't sure how long we can be gone yet but probably around a week.

When we got married we did not have a lot of money so we took a mini-moon to Savannah for a few days to at least get away. My husband just got a new job and our income has drastically increased so he's given me the go ahead to plan a one year anniversary trip/honeymoon that we always wanted. We can't book it just yet or say where we're traveling from because his current location is only definite through the end of December although it may be longer (he'd still have the job after this, we'd just be moving). Also, the trip will be sometime in March although it may not be on our actual anniversary because we might do it in between that and my birthday (March 18).
So we have ideas floating around but no idea where to go. The one that stands out right now is Italy. We've also thought of Ireland and maybe even Madagascar. We don't have a set budget yet but are just looking for ideas. Also, we don't think we really want to do the tropical vacation for this trip. And we like places where we can explore but also relax.
So, any ideas?
