@dancer318:  Personally if a better off friend offered a trip to me I would feel …. I don’t know how to describe it put down – embarrassed — I don’t know, it’s too much!

I think this would probably make her feel worse… would it be a trip with you?

Emotional aspect aside.  Unless she has expressed a huge interest in going to Vegas. I would gift her a gift card to a travel agent.

@dancer318:  If you told her that you had a companion ticket or something that might be okay. I wouldn’t just say, “hey, I want to bankroll this trip for you!”

For some reason a quote from Bridesmaids popped in my head “what woman takes another woman to Paris?” haha!

But all kidding aside, I think she would be really moved by your gesture. It would be a different situation if you didn’t know that she does want to travel and can’t, plus you had a conversation where she indicated it would be fun to go to Vegas – so because of all this I think it would be okay. Plus if you present it as “I want to experience Vegas with you” vs. “I’m paying for you because you can’t afford it,” she will be more receptive and touched.

I think if you were a little sneaky… like hey would you like to go on a trip with me to X? Everything’s already paid for, but my husband can’t go because of work. I really don’t want to go alone, would you like to come with me? Please come or I’ll have to cancel… no pressure haha! 🙂

I would be really uncomfortable if I had told a friend all of this, and then they turned around to give me a big trip.  I’d be shocked and appreciate it, but deep down, I’d feel hurt and judged.

I think this is a wonderful gesture and I would be really touched if a friend did this for me.
