I selected 3 pieces of jewelry & asked him to buy one as my gift. lol

I'm going to buy him a huge flatscreen or a hot tub. Everytime I've ever wanted to buy him something, he buys it before I do. I'm hoping he won't buy either of these... he has everything else. His b-day gifts always suck b/c I can't buy him anything good. He gets clothes... seriously lame, I know. I've been saving for a big gift for him!

I also thought about re-decorating the basement in his fav sports teams so he can have a "Man Cave". It will come in handy for when his buddies come over... especially after his little wifey decorates the entire house to be less college frat house & more like a home :)

@ RecessionitsaBride - Mr. Luna does the same thing which makes him impossible to buy for. I'll probably end up doing boudoir photos for him or something (something he couldn't buy himself, before I could buy it!). :)

We agreed early on to forego gifts to each other, but I don't know if I am going to adhere to our agreement.  I was thinking about getting him some cufflinks.  I like the idea that whenever he gets dressed up (not that it happens a lot), he will put them on and remember our wedding.  I don't know if he will get me anything, but I do think jewelry is fairly standard.

Ooh, what about a nice new watch? Guys always need a watch.. it's like what earrings or lipstick are to women :)

Or a new gadget... my FI was bugging me about getting an iPhone, but I told him to hold off b/c people were complaining about them, etc but I was really going to get him it for Christmas (he bought it anyway- see. He always beats me to it). You could get him an iPod or some other gadget he doesn't have yet!

Is that too generic? I think mine are pretty boring too. You know your guy though... if he's sentimental get him something meaningful to the 2 of you. If he's not, get him a new toy :)

I picked it out years ago and can't wait to purchase - a really nice, old-fashioned, shaving set - razor, brushes, etc. There's a specialty bath store in town with some beautiful ones. Makes me happy just thinking about it!

Are we talking post-engagement gift, or wedding day gift?

Still trying to figure out what to get FI for our wedding.  I want to get something special that he'll always have, but all I can think of is a watch.  Any other ideas??

Fi really wants a new watch, like a nice fancy watch!  But we have to see where we are on budget and I guess that'll be the deciding factor!  But I'd love to give him that and get it engraved too!

I was thinking of doing the Boudoir thing and getting a nice book together for him.  I think it would totally shock him!

I think you should get him something that you know he would love! I really don't think there is a "standard" gift process.

I did a boudoir book for my husband and he gave me a pearl bracelet and earrings. I love jewelry (especially pearls!) and he knows thats what I was wearing for the wedding.

For my husband's wedding day gift, I had his ring engraved with a personal message and our wedding date.  For my gift, my husband created a coats of arms with our family name.  He printed it out on canvas and framed it in a really nice frame.  Both gifts cost about $25.  :)

I think the traditional gifts are a watch or cufflinks for the groom and earrings, a necklace, or a right-hand ring for the bride.

Wait, you're supposed to give each other gifts??? What??  Oh man...  I'd never heard of this and I'm pretty sure my FI hasn't either.

Is "the rest of my life" a good enough gift?  Smile

We have this inside joke that I won't bore you with here.  But it centers around pineapples.  So I got him silver pineapple cufflinks.  His mother will give him my present and a note the morning of the wedding as he is getting ready.  I just like the idea of him getting a little message to him the morning of the wedding when everything is so chaotic and the idea of "us" seems completely overwhelmed by the wedding itself.

Boudoir pictures or a nice watch are always lovely. Or some wedding cologne. Personally, as a woman, I always want jewelry. Or a massage gc! His massages are just as good as the professional ones but they just don't last as long, and I like to be, ahem, left alone for my 60 minutes of being rubbed on

FI and I talked about this last night... he said no to exchanging gifts but I am a gift giver, I have thought about getting him a sword - like one from braveheart or something. He is my prince and he fights for me .. spirtualy and in life. He is my leader :) Also... his name means "sword" which is soo cool!!   We will see if I actually do it though.  Every guy wants to be the prince that fights for, rescues the princess. :)

He doesn't have to get me anything . . he gave me the ring :)

I got my husband tickets to an out-of-town sporting event that I knew he wanted to attend. I presented them in an "adventure scrapbook" based on the movie Up, along with a bouquet of balloons (also inspired by Up). I had his mom deliver the gift as the guys were getting ready. We then used the balloons in several of our pictures.

He got me a first edition of one of my favorite books--one that he'd quoted from in an e-mail to me on Valentine's Day before we started dating. He gave it to my mom and I opened it while I was getting ready with the girls--bringing on the first of the ugly cries!

We didn't agree on getting each other gifts for the wedding. My hubby had no idea that it was something you can do for each other. Anyway, I decided to get him a Superman cape. I know it sounds weird but it meant a lot to him as a child. He always talks about that PJs that he used to have that had a detachable cape, so I found an etsy seller that sold handmade capes.

He was sooo happy when he got it. He even wore it during the garter ceremony. :)

    @RoddyBride09--that's so cute! ^_^

I've already gotten Mr Spin cufflinks even though it's pretty early. I'd been stalking them online for months but wasn't going to get them until closer to the wedding. Then after a post rather like this one, I went to go admire them again and found out they were discontinued and they were selling the rest of the stock. Oh noes! So I bought them then and there. They're hanging out in my jewelry box for now. ^_^

The cufflinks are in the shape of the molecular makeup of serotonin, the chemical that's released when you're happy. Mr Spin is a science guy and we have this long running joke about how after playing Twister girls' bodies tend to release serotonin, making them happy and lovey-dovey, and guys release tryptophan, making them want to take a nap. ^_^ Plus, he makes me so happy and this is a fun way to show that.

I am getting him a custom made guitar. He is really into music and though before he had wanted a watch I thought this would be better :) He is having earrings made for me for the wedding day.
