Hey Bees, you always have great ideas so I’m appealing to your creative sides today!
My parents take a vacation to Mexico every year; they really look forward to it, it’s what helps get them through our grueling Canadian winter. Unfortunately this year they won’t be able to get away because of work schedules and I know this will be really tough for them. I thought I could put together a “Vacation in a box” for them this Christmas, but I’m not too sure what to put in it! I have found an authentic Mexican restaurant in town that delivers so I’ll get a gift certificate from there, but what other little things would make you feel transported to the beach?
Helpful info: They have a hot tub, I would like to spend around $100, Dad is diabetic so not too much sugar, and I’d prefer not to give alcohol (personal reasons).
Thanks in advance!

Charliejeorge: A new trashy novel or download for their Kobo, chips and salsa, Mexican music CD.

This is a great idea!! Here’s what I’d get:
- Book or movies set at the beach
- A CD or mP3 of ocean sounds and/or Mexican/salsa music
- A fruity beach drink mix (you can get a non-alcoholic version)
- Little umbrellas to go in said drink
- A massage (If you can find something cheap)
You could also ask them what it is about their vacation that makes it so nice for them. If it’s getting away from all their technology – give them a bag and tell them that during the staycation, they have to put all their electronics in the bag! If it’s getting out of the cold, give them some money and tell them to crank up their heat for a few days!

Make them a paper sun, attach it to a long dowel and insert it into the gift basket, or attach a helium balloon.

julies1949: I love the paper sun idea, brilliant! And the chips & salsa, thats a must too. They normally dont read at the beach, but the music is a great idea. thanks!
JenGirl: oooh, love the umbreallas!! I’ll definitely have to find some. Is there a way to purchase music for someone elses ipod/iphone? They probably wont pop in a CD, but if I send them a digital album of salsa music (awsome idea!) they’ll put it on! I think a big part of it is just being under the sun, with nothing to do and nowhere to go. A massage is a great idea, maybe I’ll suggest that as a gift from the company (I work for them part time so I actaully have to come up with 2 gift ideas… for the hardeast people on earth to buy for, ACK!)

priyawouldntwannabeya: Yes, awesome idea! I’ll see if the mexican restaurant has any authentic stuff for sale when I pick up the gift certificate. Thanks!!
