my cousin actually had her wedding reception at Glen echo park - in the bumper car pavilion - it was beautiful :) lemme know if you need tips on anything i can ask her :)
I loved Glen Echo, but my parents/groom hated it so it was out for me. I know there's a few bees lurking on here that are having their weddings though.
I'm having mine there! Renting the carousel and got a deal for Posh Photo Booth via the knot this past week. We are going to set up croquet in front of the pavilion, bringing our tandem bicycle and hiring a mariachi band for our cocktail hour. Are either of us hispanic? No, but mariachi is so fascinating and the music so joyful I feel like it will work there. Also going to get me some gtown cupcakes. I too love to stalk out wedding ideas for Glen Echo Park. Question for you - where are you having your out of town guests stay? Are you renting a bus for everyone? That is the thing on my to do list that I'm stressing over for some reason.
We are going to do blue and coral/peach as our wedding colors. I have to admit, my fiance and I will stop there on Saturday nights to check out the weddings going on and we have seen a lot of people use turquoise and red as their wedding colors. Did you get your caterer yet? I contacted all of them and found Matters of Taste gave the best price hands down. I really liked Ridgewells and Main Event as well, but they came in at a much higher price points. PM if you want to chat about GEP!
Sorry I missed your post!
We are renting the carousel too! So fun! Have you been there when it's running? It's loud enough that I don't think we need cocktail/carousel hour music.
We are working on the hotel right now. Our ceremony is in Bethesda, so I think we'll have guests stay there. I have this crzy pipe dream that they'll help with the transportation. I think we might hire bus (if I can save $$ in other areas) - maybe a school bus since they are less expensive than a coach and we think we'll have a lot of guests.
I'm doing a peacock blue, ivory, and light pinks/peach as my colors. Mine's going to be less 50s retro and more romantic vintage. I hope it ends up looking good. I think it will match with the carousel well.
Main Event blew me off after meeting with me. All the other caterers wouldn't even try to work with my budget - one told me that we would have to have a stand-up dinner! So Matters of Taste it was.
I'm getting married at Glen Echo in eek 6 weeks! We are using Matters of Taste and we also got a photobooth. We're doing the turquoise, yellow, red thing with popcorn centerpieces and huge paper lanterns. Bees are welcome to come by...we stalk weddings as well :)
@kritter, we may take you up on that offer! Congratulations!!!
I'm a little late to this thread - but I'm a glen echo bride, too! We're getting married next June 15 (Friday) in the cuddle up pavilion and having our reception in the bumper car pavilion and renting the carousel for our cocktail hour. I am SO excited. It's one of the most magical places!
We still have to look into the caterer - can anyone give me a ballpark on what they spent per head? We're aiming for under $60pp, and we just want a simple buffet - maybe barbecue.
:) Thanks!
@cuendillar: Did you ever find out the prices for the different caterers? Was anything under $60/person? I'm planning on having my wedding ceremony and reception there too! But knowing I have rentals on top of everything else does bring a little sticker shock.
I am also getting married at Glen Echo next summer, Aug 5. We are going with Matters of Taste. We are having a carnival theme cocktail hour and BBQ lunch and it is coming to about 47 Dollars a person. Their rate includes, tables, table cloths and the chairs as well and they give you the option of using nice disposables or china.
The catering costs are killing us - they're double what we thought they'd be. I don't know if we grossly underestimated it, or if we're being charged a premium by everyone because you're only allowed to use approved caterers.

Hi everyone!
I have to admit that I stalk other people using Glen Echo Park for the reception on almost a daily basis. Not that I find new things most days, but I'm obsessed. I've found some amazing wedding photos that have been really inspiring to me by googling, etc. But I haven't really found anyone else in the throes of planning their wedding at Glen Echo. I'd love to chat if you're out there!! My wedding will be on Sept 17, 2011.
I'm so excited about using the Bumper Car pavilion and making the reception really fun and colorful. On the other hand, I'm getting sticker shock on the catering/rentals. I only have one proposal so far, so I need to seek out more. And I'm afraid I'll have to cut back the decorating budget and that I'll be sad about how sparse it ends up being. I probably shouldn't worry, because the rest of the park will be lit up and fun. But if anyone has any ideas or maybe wants to find a way to share things, I'd love to share!
Anyway, I'd love to "meet" you.
