- Wedding: July 2011
Just thought I’d bring this ‘one stop shop’ to your attention: Global Events & Imports. Especially if you are in the Toronto/GTA. This place is on Brevik Place in Mississauga. (Torbram and Matheson area). It deals with several wedding aspects like: DJ, photography, gowns, decor, transportation, entertainment, etc.
Sorry this is kinda long….
Anyway, I saw their flyer about a month ago in a magazine. I called the number provided. No answer. Tried another couple of times on different days. No answer. I decided to pay a visit. They were closed and the ‘open’ sign was unlit and very few lights on, etc. According to their times listed on the flyer they should have been open. When I got to the place, it had a small note posted saying ‘appointments only’ on Sundays. This was NOT mentioned on the flyer. The flyer specifically said ‘no appointment necessary’.
So I decided to go at another date. I went on a weekday around 6. They are supposedly open till 8. I get there and again the ‘open’ sign was off and half of the lights were unlit. I called the phone # again but this time I called the # that was on the board on top of the store. It was different from the flyer #. A man picks up and says they ARE open. I said I was outside and place looks closed and ‘open’ sign is off too. He said just try and open the door. So I did and got in. (How odd! If you want customers, why can’t you even be bothered to keep your ‘open’ sign on?)
So moving on… we are in and there is SO MUCH DECOR, dresses, etc. in the store. I am over whelmed and going from corner to corner trying to look at everything. Meanwhile this guy is just following us around (My mom, FI and me.) He insists on having us sit down with him and discuss options first before we even have a chance to look at what he has to offer! So we sit down and I tell him we want to find out about transportation. I give him exact distances, etc. (even down to the KMs!!), and timings. I wanted to book limo or bus for whole day. 9-5 sort of thing. He cannot give us a price. He says ‘we’ll work it out later’. I couldn’t get an estimate out of him either. Like $200-400, etc. NOTHING. So I let that go and we talk about entertainment. Again I tell him EXACTLY what dancers I want and what time and for how long. Once again, he can’t decide on the price at all OR give me a rough estimate! I don’t know if they will cost $300 or $900? Etc. I have nothing to go on with.
After an hour of him running us around in circles and not providing any #s, I decide to excuse myself so I can look at some gowns they have in the store. My FI and mom follow shortly. There’s an employee in the store who is working on someone’s wedding decor. We start talking to her and he comes and interrupts us and tells her to go do some work. (Umm, maybe she could have convinced us to get some decor there!?)
So she leaves. My mum, FI and I are still strolling the store. It’s a warehouse type area and we insist on seeing the bus. He reluctantly takes us to the parking lot and shows us. Again, won’t discuss ANY price whatsoever!
We come back to the store and are looking around. He has tiaras, veils, etc. He is still following us at a distance. He comes over to me and says “looks like you guys don’t want nuthin’. You are wasting my time. Come back only when you decide that you can commit to something!’ I’m SHOCKED by this. I am at a loss for words and I answer back with ‘Of course we do want the services. We are just so overwhelmed by how big this store is and we are just trying to take it all in!’ He walks away from us mumbling under his breath angrily.
We obviously walked out of the store. What a stupid man! I am kickin’ myself for not returning his tone of voice and words. I should have said something to shut him up, but I didn’t.
OBVIOUSLY I do still need help with decor and transportation. And obviously those are BIG purchases which now I will NOT be getting from him. I just cannot believe the attitude. Ugh! Ladies, do yourself a favour and stay AWAY from this ridiculous place!
