Just fiddling around with ideas- these included just paper, a little bit of tape, wineglasses, and tealights. I think I might try other petal shapes for my next attempt- these came out more lotus-y, I think. And maybe different paper-origami or patterned scrapbook paper might be neat. I'm thinking 3-5 pieces plus a mirror underneath would look really nice for the end result. :)
These are soo cute also not what i expected. This is why i love the bee, i love seeing everyones creative ideas. Please post pics of the finished product
Wow!! This is so creative and beautiful!! I love that glow, and I've never seen anything like this. Great job!! Share you other results with us when you get them done!!
Those look really cool! I can't wait to see what your other attempts look like! :)
Thank you! I really like the smaller one and am excited to see what other types of flower styles will look like. Next on the list: roses, and maybe some form of dahlia. Maybe even non-floral shapes. Can you tell I'm enjoying this? :)
Try 2: Rose Petals.
I'm not sure I like these as much. But you don't know until you've tried! :)
This is very creative! Love it...wonder how it would look with colored paper?
Those look really cool! So did you just tape the paper to the outside of the glass? Is the bowl of the glass really visible from certain angles?
Oh wow!!! So pretty! Reminds me of paper lanterns in the summer!!!
Pretty cool! I'd try Vellum paper I think like someone said above, maybe the stiffness might be better!!
Love them.. I read the title and was imaginging something totally different. These are so cool.
Thanks, ladies! The first runs were paper, and the second ones (I have to upload pics later) are vellum. I'm not settled on a material yet- the paper glowed better, we know that so far. The vellum actually looked a little duller, but pretty. I think we'll try colored paper and maybe different edges for the petals.
As far as a how- to, we used dessert glasses (very similar to large-bowl champagne glasses), and we used tape and the paper cut into petal shapes (with a flat edge where the tape went- no one sees that part. you start at the top, and make rows of petals until you reach the bottom of the glass's body. pop in a tealight, and voila! ;)

the vellum with a few tealights for effect- a little softer, but not as bright- not sure about these yet.
oh, and the best part? we found 11 of these glasses at a thrift store for five bucks two days ago- score!!
I really like this idea- I think I will test it out myself! Do you have a top-view shot? They look so pretty from the side, I am wondering what they look like from the top? Is any tape visiible?
this is an awesome idea, i wish my venue allowed candles! i wonder how the LEDs would look... maybe then you could fill it with something too? i have no idea what though.
The tape isn't visible- I'll try to load some over-shots. It looked so cool with a colored votive holder inside it- pics of those coming, too!
WOW I love these you should strat selling them you would make a killing, maybe open an etsy shop? Just an idea...
those are super cool!!!!!!!! you should do a how to of it on the boards.
I've been working on new ones- I finally figured out some better ways to shape the petals and attach them. My camera's on the fritz at the moment, so that's mostly what the delay has been. The glass shape most condusive to the project has been old champagne glasses. I'll get pics up as soon as I can! :D
just WOW. I wanted lotus's in the beginning but we ended up going with candles to keep it simple. Now I'm wondering if we can do these for the head table!
They're SO easy to make- it's the cutting out the hundreds of petals that gets frustating, haha! We ended up still using the lotus shape, but rounding the tops of the petals for a more "finished" look. Once I figure out the camera situation, I'll do a "how-to" post. Sorry for the pics delay, ladies!
Okay, I finally got some pics. Phone quality, but they show them off pretty well! :D

yay! just lovely, can you give us the deets on what kind of paper you used this time? also, those aren't real tealights are they?
These are just using computer paper, actually! (it's what I had nearby at the time, lol!) Yes, I did actually use tealights- I let them burn for several hours, and nothing bad happened! I ended up using regular glue to attach the petals instead of tape- now the petals stick like nobody's business! Not sure if these are the final lot, but I really like them!
What a gorgeous and creative idea! Well done! I may steal this :)
