Hi elle,

I think the problem may be your printer.  If there is too much carbon on the original, then it will block the holes that are burned into the screen and will result in splotchy images.  Even with the blue filter, it may be the case that there is just too much carbon.  I’d suggest making a copy of it on a copy machine (not a printer) and see if that helps any. 

Another thing to try is replacing the batteries.  They may be running low and causing the flash to be dull.  Or, you may not have enough ink on the screen (this has happened to me many times).  Try to add a little more and see if the splotchiness goes away.
