So I have been coloring my hair for a loooooooong time. My natural color is dark brown, almost black, but a little over a year ago I went red, not red red, but a dark reddish brown. It looks good. I love being a redhead.
But I got to thinking about our wedding pictures, and wondered if it would be better to go back to my natural color. I mean, years from now, will I be happier looking at pictures of us with my natural color or with a color that might be a phase.
I decided to ask Jim if he thought I should go back to my natural color. He said that my natural color is his favorite, but that the red is is second favorite. He NEVER told me that before! He always told me my hair was pretty no matter what, but he never told me which color he prefered until now.
So, I’m going back to my natural color. but maybe a shade lighter. I have to say, keeping my gray from showing is easier with the red, so I’m not looking forward to having to color my hair more often to keep the gray from showing. But I do think years from now I’ll be happier with the way the pictures look with my natural hair color.
The cool thing, though, about going back to my natural color is my hair will look more like my inspiration hair style picture.

I agree that natural is the way to go.
I have really dark hair..almost black. I was considering maybe putting in some highlights to liven up my face…but in the end, kept it dark. I think it looked great! I think I would have regretted looking not natural…if you know what I mean.
Like you said, you don’t want to look back at your photos and seeing a phase. You want to look classic!

Your inspiration pic is gorgeous!
I’ve had blonde highlights for awhile now (had red ones before these), but I’m tired of them. I have 2 boxes of medium brown dye in my bathroom just waiting for me to put them in my hair (my natural color is almost black as well).
I’m sure your natural hair color will be gorgeous, and you & your FH are going to love it!

I do know what you mean. That’s what I thought.
The more I think about it, the I am definitely going to go back to my natural color. I can always go back to red afterwards if I miss being a redhead. But for wedding pictures, I think I’ll be happier if I go back to my natural color. That’s the color Jim fell in love with me with, so that’s what I should do.

@AudzinLuv: Thanks! I fell in love with the look the first time I saw that picture. Plus it will be very easy for me to do myself since my hair is very much the same texture as the model’s.

I was in the same boat – I’m naturally dark haired, but went blonde for the past few years. It’s now a month before my wedding, and I decided to go back dark brown because of precisely the same reasons that you’ve identified – that you’d be happier looking back on something classic instead of a fad. You don’t want to look back and be like, “what’s with the streaks?!” I would suggest though to see a hair colourist and not do it yourself. The hair colourist would be able to tell (attain) exactly what colour (and what highlights) to give you so that your wedding hair style has dimension. 1 colour looks flat, so you will need a bit of contrast. Also, the colourist would know the tone of dark brown that would complement your skin tone. Before I went dark again, here was my hair:
And here is a pic of my new hair – she did black wtih chocolate brown streaks. It’s a bit more red than I would have been comfortable with before, but according to my colourist, it’s the warm chocolate brown colour that complement my skin the best! Good luck!
