I’m a plus sized girl 16/18 depending. I will be going to a sample sale as a bridal salon is having 75% off all their Maggie Sottero samples and I have confirmed that they will have larger sized samples available. I just don’t know what to expect and I’m very anxious to be going. Has anybody gone to a sample sale & how did it go and how was your first time dress shopping? Any advice would be appreciated.

As long as they have some larger sizes you will be fine but pplease don’t buy a dress that doesn’t fit regardless of how low cost it is 🙂

@tootsie85: I was very anxious to go too and one of my really good friends called around and made sure the places we went to try things on had a large selection of different styles of plus sized.. I felt awesome while we were trying things on and the consultants really put me at ease.. I hope you have as good as experience as I had..

I am plus sized and I love my Maggie, she sure knows how to make a flattering stunning dress! I never experienced a sample sale, but I did go to several shops to find my dress, many had very limited plus sized selections ( I was a street 18). My best peice of advise is trust a consultant, they do it for a living and know what works best on your body type. I went with a small group from my wedding party and we chose dress after dress. Finally I asked my consultant to choose the dress she thought would work best on me and it was PERFECT. I ended up with Maggies Karena Royale, and am so pleased with it!

I am a street size 26/28. Always have been a big girl. Because of that, I was dreading going dress shopping. My Fiance called a bunch of shops for me to see if they had dresses that were larger in size so that I wouldn’t have to be humiliated when going in. The first place I went advertised that they had dresses up to size 32 in store. When the 32s didn’t fit(wedding dresses are 2-3 sizes smaller than normal), I was devastated. The sales people were wonderful. They got me into several dresses and explained how they could be altered to fit me. They made me feel so comfortable. I ended up finding a dress I loved for the lace and the way I felt in it (even without it fiting correctly) I had my second fitting yesterday and the dress zipped and laid the way it is suppose to. There needs to be some work done in the belly area, but overall I so pleased (in the pic below, the pink arrow points to the part I don’t like right now) I am assured they are going to make it flare out there.
My tip for all full figured brides is to buy a body suit. They will help you have a more smooth finished look. Also, if they have to do work on the dress, or you don’t quite fit in the sample, you will have something that “hides” you more than you would just in your panties and bra. As you can see from this picture, there are always many people with you during the fitting process.Make sure to wear the body suit to every dress try on and fitting. Mine has really made me feel much more secure. I found it at onestopplus.com under shapewear. As my bridal consultant told me, “every girl is a beautiful bride no matter what size” so please do not worry!

Thank you all for your advice, I went on Saturday to the sample sale and bought my dress, I didn’t get a Maggie but I got a Bonny unforgettable Dress 1919 and I fell in love with it once I had tried it on, and it fit like a glove the only thing I have to do is have it shorten. And the sales ladies were great during the sample sale, but it was very hectic I had to wait 3 hours to try on dresses, but well worth it
