I have done lots of research on web sites and talked to many reception site vendors over the phone. Because I live an hour away from the area we are holding it and I have two children, I didnt want to visit them all. So today I am visiting the site I have most likely decided upon (if it all goes well). I have a list of questions to ask but just in case are there any suggestions anyone has?

I don’t know if this is a random state law in MA, but all of the venues I saw required us to pay a police officer for ‘security’. Its not a huge fee (I think about $500, depends on the town) but its definitely something you might want to know about before making your final decision!

What time can you or your vendors get in to set up for the reception?
Can you bring in your own alcohol?
Do they want you to close the bar before your reception ends (my venue mandates the bar close 30 minutes before the reception ends)?
Do they want you to clean up right after the reception is over or can it wait till the morning?
Policies on candles (some places don’t allow them, others are super specific about types of votive holders)?
Is there another event the day of your reception?
Any noise ordinances you should be aware of?
Hope it all works out for you! Good luck!

PP have good ones, and maybe you already know since you talked to them on the phone so for actually being at the venue, the only ones I can think of that cannot be answered over phone/email
Can I see the different lighting options?
(If there is something hanging on wall/ceiling that you are or are not crazy about): Can that item be removed for day of? (Or is that a permanent fixture?)

Other issues not mentioned:
What is the payment schedule? Is there a cash discount (if applies) or any limitations on payment type?
What is the price for kids meals – if kids are attending?
Can you bring outside food – cake/favors/candy – and is there a fee?
Is there a minimum catering fee to rent the facility?
