Sorry, I don’t think this can be generalized.  I’ve seen women on the pill for many years regulate immediately and women who were only on the pill for a few months take a long time to regulate.  If anything, I would assume there is a better chance of correlation with whether you were regular before starting the pill.  However, I have also seen cases where women who were not regular before the pill got pregnant their first cycle and vice versa so again it is a case by case basis.  FWIW, I was on the pill for about 7 years and i regulated immediately after stopping.  I was always extremely regular before I went on the pill too, so i suspect that may have had something to do with it in my case.

@mrssinger321:  I don’t think you can generalize. I was on it for 6 years, and I went back to normal right away (with lighter periods than before though so actually a positive). I was regular before the pill but had very heavy miserable periods with terrible cramping and migrains.

@mrssinger321:  agree, everyone is different but for me, I was on the pill for 15+ years with no break and returned to normal immediately coming off. Then after my son, I went back on the pill for 8 months, recently came off and again, my cycle returned back to normal immediately….. so it all depends on the person. Good luck to you, I hope everything works out.

@mrssinger321:  my OBGYN told me that there is no correlation as too how long you are on it and when your cycles regulate again.  Sorry!  hopefully you get lucky!

It just depends on the person. My cycles were sooo irregular before I went on the pill. I was on the pill for 12 years, when I went off, I had picture perfect 28 day cycles.

I don’t think it can be generalized like that.  My cycles were very irregular (long, heavy, and very frequent) before I went on, but I was very young when I started them (13).

I was on BCP for 16 years and got pregnant immediately after coming off so I don’t even know how long/short my cycles would have been had I not gotten pregnant.  It’s very possible my body eventually regulated itself over time.  I was just happy I didn’t start bleeding an insane amount 2 weeks after going off, that was what my cycle was like when I was young.

I’d say it just depends on the person.

Noope, I dont think that has anything to do with it.  I was only on it for 2 years and my cycle was whack for 7 months.  And then I read about people who were taking it for a decade+ come off it and bam, pregnant.

I think it depends on the woman and her natural cycles. The pill had be on a 28 day cycle, when I’m about a 31-33. So it took me about 6 to 7 months to get regular again.

As far as TTC goes, you can always try before you’re regular. You might not be able to temp and know your O date, but you can always BD a lot and hope that it works. 🙂

It also depends on the type of pill. I’m assuming you were on the more common one – the combination birth control pill, and not a POP.

I bounced back immediately after 2 years of birth control use. The first year was a combo pill; the second year was a POP. I ovulated within a week of coming off of the pill, and my cycles were pretty regular after that. But…POPs tend to have fewer side effects, including lingering side effects after they’re done.

@mrssinger321:  I was on BC (nuvaring) for 8 months and the first cycle off was normal (30 days).  I’m pretty sure I didn’t ovulate that cycle though, only reason I believe that is because the cycle after that I felt ovulation pains and got a BFP.  Good luck!

I was on the pill for nearly 10 years and went back to normal immediately. My first cycle was 32 days (ovulated around CD 20) and I got pregnant on my second.

I was on Bcp for 5 years and it took me about a year to become normal. Actually scratch that…over a year. I’m still irregular but I think it might just be my body too 🙁
